Tech billionaire Elon Musk on Saturday said he “fully” endorses Donald Trump after the Republican presidential candidate was rushed bleeding from the stage of a rally in Pennsylvania after an apparent shooting.

“I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery,” Musk wrote on X, which he owns along with carmaker Tesla, as he shared a video of Trump pumping his fist while being escorted away by Secret Service officials.

Eyewitnesses have reported that the shooting during Trump’s campaign rally may have originated from a one-story building with a white roof situated to the right of the stage. One witness described seeing a man crawling onto the roof with a rifle before alerting law enforcement, according to BBC.

Shortly after, what appeared to be gunfire was heard. Several witnesses corroborated this account, suggesting that the building could be the source of the shots. However, the situation remains fluid, and the UK broadcaster has not been able to verify these reports. In another post on X, Elon Musk said the head of the Secret Service and the leader of this security detail should resign.

Trump is fine

Trump’s campaign says he is “fine” after being whisked off the stage at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania after what law enforcement officials are treating as an apparent assassination attempt. A statement says “President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act.” It adds that “he is fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility. More details will follow.”

US President Joe Biden said “everybody must condemn” the attack. “There’s no place in America for this type of violence,” he said. “It’s sick. It’s sick.” The former president and presumptive Republican nominee was showing off a chart of border crossing numbers during his last rally before the Republican National Convention opens Monday when bangs started ringing through the crowd.

Trump could be seen reaching with his right hand toward his neck. There appeared to be blood on his face. In a sign of how important Pennsylvania is for both parties, Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, and first lady Jill Biden were all campaigning in the state Saturday. Biden met virtually with members of the two largest Democratic caucuses on Capitol Hill as he looks to rebuild momentum for his reelection campaign, even as the number of Democrats calling for him to step aside increased.
