England wicketkeeper batsman Johnny Bairstow scored an unbeaten 86 off 48 balls. He was also voted Man of the Match.
England defeated South Africa by 5 wickets in the first match of the series of 3 T20 matches. In the first match played in Cape Town, the African team batted first and scored 179 for 6 wickets. In reply, man of the match, Johnny Bairstow’s unbeaten 86, helped England reach the target by losing 5 wickets in 19.2 overs. The second match of the series will be played in Paarl on Sunday.
England did not have a good start to chase the target of 180 runs. Both team openers Jason Roy (0) and Josh Butler (7) were dismissed cheaply. David Milan (19) also could not do anything special. This was followed by Johnny Bairstow and Ben Stokes. Bairstow scored an unbeaten 86 off 48 balls, while Stokes played a crucial knock of 37 off 27 balls. Captain Eoin Morgan was dismissed by 12 runs. Sam Karan scored 7 not out.
Linde-Engidi 2-2 wickets
George Linde and Lungi Engidi got 2–2 wickets each for South Africa. George bowled out Roy and Milan for 20 runs in 4 overs. While there, Engidi walks Butler and Morgan. Tabrez Shamsi took one wicket for the team.
Du-plessis imposed fifty
Earlier, England won the toss and decided to bowl first. South Africa captain Quinton Dickock got off to a good start, but could not convert it into a big score and was dismissed for 30 runs. Faf du-Plessis scored 58, One-Der Dusain scored 37 and Heinrich Klassen scored 20 runs.
