Displeasure over non-payment of Rs 158 crore
The farmers were protesting against the payment of arrears of sugarcane price. According to farmers, last year’s payment of Rs 158 crore has not been made. In view of the strike by the farmers, a release was issued by the sugar mill. According to this, Rs 158 crore was owed to the farmers on the sugar mill, but on December 27 and 28, 3 crore arrears have been sent. Now the farmers have a balance of Rs 155 crore.
The farmers rejected the mill’s proposal.
According to the mill’s letter, the unit head told that the farmers are asking for full payment, but we are unable to give lump sum payment. To solve the problem, it has been proposed to release payment of Rs 5 crore on the first day and Rs 2 crore every day thereafter. In this way 50 crore will be paid in 20 to 22 days. However, this proposal of the mill was rejected by the farmers.
Full payment will be done by January 31
At the same time, on the seventh day of the protest, DM Markandeya Shahi interacted with the farmers. He said that the first installment would be 10 crore and every day two crore would be paid. 50 crore will be paid by 31 January. With this, it has been agreed to pay the full dues by February. After the assurance of payment, the farmers called off the strike.
