Karnataka fast bowler R Vinay Kumar has decided to retire from all types of cricket. The 37-year-old Vinay has played for Team India in all three formats. He also made Karnataka two consecutive Ranji Trophy champions in 2013-14 and 2014-15 under his captaincy.
It is a privilege to play with Sachin, Dhoni and Virat
Vinay Kumar announced his retirement in a statement. In it, he wrote, ‘It has been a privilege for me to play with veterans like Sachin Tendulkar, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli in my career. The decision to retire was not easy. There is a time in every cricketer’s career when he has to make a decision about it.
International debut under Dhoni’s captaincy
Vinay Kumar played the only Test match against Australia in 2012 in Perth.
Vinay Kumar made his international career debut in 2010 under Dhoni’s captaincy from a T20 match against Sri Lanka. His ODI debut was made under the captaincy of Suresh Raina and under the captaincy of Test debut Dhoni. Vinay has taken 38 wickets in ODIs, 10 in T20 Internationals and one wicket in Test matches.
15th most successful bowler in IPL history
Vinay Kumar has bowled in the IPL with an economy of 8.39 runs per over.
Vinay Kumar has also been very successful in IPL. He took 105 wickets in 105 IPL matches at an average of 28.24 and ranked 15th in the list of most wicket-taking bowlers. He has been a part of four teams in the league. In the IPL, he has been a part of Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians, Kochi Tuskers Kerala and Kolkata Knight Riders.
More than 500 wickets in first class
Vinay Kumar has also been very successful in domestic cricket. He took 504 wickets in 139 first class matches at an average of 22.44. He has taken five wickets in 26 innings and 10 wickets in the match five times. In List A cricket, Vinay has taken 225 and 194 wickets including all T20s.
