Poonam’s father Kailash Yadav is a farmer. The condition of the house was bad. They are 6 siblings. As a child, there was a situation of being hungry. Even after that, inspired by Karnam Malleswari’s Olympic bronze, the father made his daughter a weightlifter, so that the daughter could win a medal for the country. He even sold his buffaloes for this dream. That was his job. Not only this, he had also taken a loan of 7 lakhs from close friends.

This was the performance in the 2018 Commonwealth

Fulfilled dreams even after being hungry
Poonam’s family lives in Dandupur, Varanasi. According to mother Urmila, her daughter struggled a lot. Mother says that we cannot forget the moment when we had to stay hungry at times. The situation was such that people used to taunt Poonam’s play, today she salutes him. Poonam started practicing in the year 2011.

Social worker gave 20 thousand rupees per month
Due to poverty, Poonam could not get the necessary diet for the game. Then the local social worker Satish Fauji started giving 20 thousand rupees per month to the family for the future flight of the daughter. With no money to participate in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, Poonam’s father borrowed Rs 7 lakh and sold the buffaloes. The family did not even have money to distribute sweets when the daughter won the bronze in the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games. After this the father again borrowed money and fed everyone sweets.
