Indian football has suffered another major setback due to Corona. The next year’s FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup in India has been canceled. India has now been given the hosting of the World Cup to be held in 2022 at the FIFA Council virtual meeting.
In addition, the Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica was also canceled. It will now be in Costa Rica in 2022 itself.
Under-17 Women’s World Cup to be held in November
The tournament was earlier scheduled to be held from November 2 to 21 this year, which was pushed forward due to Corona. The World Cup was then scheduled from 17 February to 7 March. Now it has been canceled.
Final set to be in Mumbai
The Women’s World Cup will feature 16 teams including India. Being the hosts, the Indian team did not have to qualify. The team got a direct entry. The tournament is scheduled to be played in Kolkata, Guwahati, Bhubaneswar, Ahmedabad and Navi Mumbai at 5 places in the country. The final will be played in Navi Mumbai.
Women’s Asia Football Cup 2022 will also be in India
The Under-17 Women’s World Cup is the second FIFA tournament to be held in India. Earlier, the country has hosted the Under-17 Men’s World Cup in 2017. Now the Women’s Asia Football Cup 2022 will also be held in India. This tournament is going to happen in the country after 42 years. Earlier in 1979, when the host was found, the Indian team was the runner-up.
