People cross the river at Renuka Dham Ghat in Runkata, Agra, risking their lives for small needs for generations. By tying ropes at both ends of the river, there is traffic between Agra and Mathura with the help of boat. Last year, the work of building a bridge over the Yamuna river has started here. However, due to the slow pace of work, people may have to bear the risk for a few more years. Every day more than three thousand people take dangerous journey for employment, education and other work.

The boat is dragged across the river with the help of a rope. Till date a bridge has not been built on this river.

History here is related to Treta Yuga

The history of this place is also associated with Treta Yuga. It is believed that Maharishi Jamadagni performed Putreshti Yagya here in Treta Yuga. On the day of Shukla Tritiya of Vaishakh month by the boon of Devraj Indra, his wife Renuka had a son in the form of Lord Parashurama. Lord Parashurama is considered to be the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Jamadagni used to perform Yagya here. Once he got Parshuram ji to kill his mother and brothers after he was late in asking his wife for water for the yagya.

Pleased to obey his father, when Jamadagni asked Parashurama to ask for a boon, he gave his brothers and mother a new life by asking for a boon to be alive again. The temple of Lord Shani Dev is established here and there is a belief of fulfillment of every wish on worship in the temple. A few km away from here on the banks of the Yamuna, he had established the Kailash temple and also on the Khandari Mau road in the Anandi Bhairav โ€‹โ€‹temple.

Always ready pac and diver

Presently the water level in Yamuna is low, but PAC is always stationed here. Whenever an accident occurs, relief work is done with full machinery. A diver is also present throughout the day in the temple premises. The temple pays him. Diver Mahendra has saved the lives of more than 200 people so far and does the same work to remove the dead body after any accident. According to local resident Krishna Kumar Gautam, most of the accidents happen here.

People’s way till Mathura

Coming via Yamuna, people do not have to travel more than 20 km. Many villages from Dau Ji of Mathura to Agra Etmadpur tehsil come in this extent. Of these, the people of Nagla Akos, Akos, Lalgarhi, Garhi Maharam, Kula Burj, Nagla Sanja, Nagla Dodhia, Nagla Setu, Nagla Babool, Nagla Ber, Nagla Badna have to cross the river on every need. An estimated three thousand people cross the river like this every day.

Boats run here throughout the day for the movement of people. People go across by boat carrying bikes, cycles and all their belongings. Sometimes they fall into the water while loading and unloading the vehicle.

Sailors who run the boat always say that there have been accidents many times. Now the Yogi government has taken care in some way. Once the bridge is built, the boat work will be over, but the price of their land will increase and it will be easier to sell their crops.

Bridge being built at a cost of Rs 54 crore

This area comes in Agra Rural, the assembly of former governor and current cabinet minister Baby Rani Maurya. According to District Magistrate Prabhu Narayan Singh, a seven and a half meter high bridge is being constructed here at a cost of Rs 54 crore. This bridge is being built by making a total of nine wells 27 meters deep. work in progress.
