Former US Olympic gymnast coach John Gedart committed suicide on Thursday. The coach of the girls’ team was charged with 24 charges including sexual abuse and human trafficking. The case was confirmed by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel.
If he were found guilty, he could have been sentenced to life imprisonment. Gedart ran a training center in the city of Lansing, Michigan. He has been accused of sexual abuse by a gym doctor and an athlete. The age of the athlete is between 13 and 16 years.
Police is looking for cause of death
Michigan Police said, “Gedart’s body was recovered from the highway rest area near Lansing around 3.20 pm. At the moment, the investigation is ongoing. The cause of death has not yet been revealed.
Suspended him in 2008
Gedart was suspended as coach in 2018. After this, he suddenly announced his retirement. All the allegations against him were very serious. He had a case going on in Eton County Court. If he was found guilty, he could be sentenced to life imprisonment.
