Professor CL Khetrapal, former Vice Chancellor of Allahabad University and eminent scientist, passed away on Wednesday. He breathed his last at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI), Lucknow. Pro. After the death of Khetrapal, his body has been donated to King George’s Medical University, Lucknow. Medical students will be able to do research from their body’s argon.

Treatment was going on in PGI

Pro. Khetrapal was ill. Was admitted in PGI. He died on Wednesday. His son Munish told that his wish was to continuously create new dimensions in science. In this sense, his body was donated to KGMU. Professor Ram Sevak Dubey, President of Allahabad University Teachers’ Association has condoled his death.

Studied from AU, became VC here

Professor Khetrapal was born on 25 August 1937. He completed his studies from Allahabad University. Studied Masters from Mumbai’s prestigious Atomic Energy Establishment Training. Then in 1965 he did his PhD from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research.

Khetrapal did research at the University of Basel, Switzerland from 1967 to 1969 as a professor during his post-doctoral period. He returned to India in 1973 and started teaching at the Raman Research Institute in Bangalore. Here on the suggestion of Professor GN Ramachandran, India’s first Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Research Center was established in 1977. Now it is known as NMR Research Center. After this he stayed abroad for research from 1979 to 1984.

EVV Vice Chancellor for three years

Pro. CL Khetrapal was appointed the Vice Chancellor of Allahabad University in 1998. Here he was in the post till 2001. His tenure is known for many educational reforms. He established several centers in AU. After this he was a professor at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow from 2001-06. He was also the founding director of the Center of Biomedical Magnetic Resonance here. He has published 260 books. Have reviewed hundreds of books.
