Canada, playing its first T20 World Cup, has achieved its first win of the tournament over Ireland. The team defeated the Irish team by 12 runs. This is also the team’s first overall win in this tournament.

Ireland won the toss and chose to bowl at Nassau County Stadium in New York. Canada scored 137 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Ireland could only score 125 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs.

For Canada, Nicholas Kirton and Shreyas Movva shared a 75-run partnership for the 5th wicket. The team had lost 4 wickets for 53 runs at one point. Nicholas contributed 49 runs and Shreyas contributed 37 runs. Craig Young and Barry McCarthy took 2-2 wickets. Mark Adair, Gareth Delaney and Curtis Campher got one wicket each.

2. Gareth Delany’s brilliant catch

In the 9th over of the Canadian innings, Gareth Delaney dismissed Dilpreet Bajwa. Gareth bowled a short of length ball. Bajwa played it in front. Gareth took a brilliant one-handed catch on his own bowling.

3. Lorcan Tucker and Balbirnie narrowly escape collision

McCarthy was bowling in the 19th over of the innings. He bowled a brilliant short of length ball to Nicholas who was batting well. The ball hit the upper part of Nicholas’s bat and went towards the keeper. Balbirnie, standing at fine leg, also ran for the catch. Keeper Lorcan Tucker and Balbirnie avoided colliding. Finally Balbirnie took the catch.

4. Saad Zafar bowled in a dream delivery

In the 8th over of the Irish innings, Saad Zafar bowled a ball that shocked everyone. Saad Zafar gave air to the ball and the ball went straight after hitting the pitch. Harry Tector played for the turn and the ball hit the stumps.

6. Nicholas’ brilliant run out

On the last ball of the 10th over of the Irish innings, Campher played a cut shot. The ball went into the hands of Nicholas standing at deep point. Campher was not ready but Tucker wanted to take the second run. Meanwhile, Nicholas made a brilliant flat throw. Captain Saad Bin Zafar caught the ball and uprooted the stumps. Tucker was run out on 10 runs.
