Gauri wanted Shahrukh Khan’s films to flop: Said, she was not happy with coming to Bombay, did not know when he became a star

Shahrukh Khan is a star today, although there was a time when his wife Gauri Khan did not want his films to be hits. She wanted all Shahrukh’s films to flop, so that she would not have to live in Bombay. Gauri herself had said this in an old interview.

Years ago, in a conversation for NDTV Good Times, Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla told Gauri that you must have stood firmly with Shahrukh. Denying this, Gauri Khan had said that it was not so. She further said, ‘I was not very happy with his coming to Bombay (now Mumbai). I don’t know when he became a star, but the most shocking and difficult thing for me was to come and live in Bombay.

Gauri further said, ‘I did not want her films to perform well. I wanted his films to flop, so that we could go back from Bombay to Delhi. I was just 21 years old when I got married to him. It was difficult for me to understand all this at that age. All I wanted was for everyone to flop.

Let us tell you that Shahrukh Khan and Gauri first met in a party in 1984. Both of them became friends and then both started loving each other. Both of them got married on 26 August 1991. At that time Shahrukh was struggling to make a place in films. After the court marriage, Shahrukh married Gauri as per Hindu customs.

Shahrukh had signed Hema Malini’s directorial debut film Dil Aashna. Before this he used to work in TV serials. Shahrukh was not the first choice for Hema, because she did not want to take a risk by making her directorial debut with a newcomer. He neither liked Shahrukh’s hair nor his speaking style, but when he could not find another hero, he made the film with Shahrukh only.

The shooting of the film Dil Aashna Hai was going on at the same time when Shahrukh got married. Shahrukh used to stay with friends at the time of marriage, so after marriage he booked a hotel for the honeymoon. As soon as he reached the hotel, Hema Malini called and invited Shahrukh to meet him.

Shahrukh reached the set with Gauri dressed like a bride. Hema was not there, so Shahrukh left Gauri in the make-up room and started shooting. Shahrukh kept waiting for Hema and Gauri for Shahrukh for hours. When Shahrukh reached the make-up room at 2 o’clock in the night, bride Gauri was already asleep. As soon as Shahrukh arrived, Gauri got up smiling, but Shahrukh was in tears. Shahrukh always regretted this. At that time even Hema Malini did not know that Shahrukh was married.
