During Diwali weekend, 17 persons were rescued from drowning in around ten separate incidents across Goa
Two tourists from Pune and Bengaluru drowned at Goaโs Morjim beach in two separate incidents on Friday, police said.
In the first incident, 47-year-old Faiz Ahmed, a Pune resident, drowned in the Morjim beach at around 8:30 am, a Times of India report said.
Ahmed, his wife Fatima and two children had arrived in Goa three days ago, said PI Pernem Sachin Lokre. The family was staying at a resort in Morjim.
Then in another incident, a 50-year-old Rajesh Sharma โ a resident of Bengaluru โ drowned while swimming in the Morjim beach. Lokre said that Sharma had been staying with his friend at Morjim.
During Diwali Weekend, around 17 persons were rescued from drowning in more than ten separate incidents across Goa. Two Kazakhstan nationals were among the 17 rescue people.
The Kazakhs were saved after they were caught in a rip current off Arambol beach in North Goa. Further Between November 10 and 11, three women from Uttar Pradesh were saved from drowmning in the sea at Calangute, a Drishti Marine Lifesavers spokesperson said.
Similar rescue operations were also carried out at Mandrem, Agonda, Cavelossim, Morjim and Sinquerim. The spokesperson also said that two missing girls aged five and nine were also rescued and reunited with their families.
Again during Diwali festivities, three teenagers drowned in the Narmada river in Gujaratโs Vadodara district. The three were visiting a popular picnic spot during their Diwali vacation, police said.
The boys, all friends, went missing when they were bathing in the river at Diver village under Shinor taluka on Tuesday evening.
Their dead bodies were found on Wednesday evening, nearly 3 kilometres away from the spot they entered the river through.
The three friends had come to Diver village to enjoy their Diwali vacation. โAfter nearly 24 hours of search, fire brigade divers found the bodies of the three boys at Karjan, nearly 3 kilometres away from Diver. It is possible the boys misjudged the depth of the water and also ignored the speed at which the river was flowing,โ Inspector (Shinor) AR Mahida said.
A case of accidental death was registered at the Karjan police station.
