The Golden State Warriors gave a wholesome tribute to Klay Thompson, thanking him for the 13 seasons he spent with the team. With the Warriors legend now set to move to the Dallas Mavericks, the San Francisco-based team bid their star adieu in a heartwarming post on X (formerly Twitter).
“We can’t overstate Klay Thompson’s incredible and legendary contributions with the Warriors during his 13 years with the team,” they wrote.
The Warriors also revealed they were planning to retire Thompson’s number 11 jersey at the club.
“Klay’s legacy will live on forever and we look forward to the day we can retire his #11 jersey at Chase Center, where he will join a host of Warriors immortals, including those who helped shape this recent dynasty—himself included,” read the statement.
The official statement of Thompson’s departure sparked plenty of reactions on X, with many thanking the player for his contributions in the last decade. One of them wrote, “Thank you, Klay! We will miss you in the Bay.”
Another social media user commented, “Thanks for giving us Klay. We will take good care of him here in Dallas.”

Another added, “Hope Klay has a good rest of his career, Warriors fans won’t forget his legacy here, wish him the best.”
“Always gon remember his time here fondly no matter how badly it ended,” wrote one more.
The Dallas Mavericks acted quickly to acquire Thompson after seeing the legendary shooting guard hit the free-agent market. It has been reported that the Mavericks have signed him for three years in a deal worth $50 million with a player option.

One of the most prolific players to feature in the NBA, Thompson has earned several accolades throughout his career. Widely regarded as one of basketball’s greatest three-point shooters of all time, Thompson won the NBA Championship four times in 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022.
He has made six appearances in the finals with five NBA All-Star Game appearances. Thompson also holds the record for the most points scored in a quarter in NBA history (37) and the highest 3-point field goals (14).
