After 3 years, the CBI investigating the Gomti River Front scam in the capital Lucknow on Wednesday filed a charge sheet against the six accused. In this, 6 including two engineers of the irrigation department have been accused. The then Executive Engineer Roop Singh Yadav and Junior Assistant Rajkumar Yadav have been found by the CBI, the perpetrators of the entire scam. The names of KK Spun Company and its 2 directors Himanshu Gupta and Kavish Gupta are also in the charge sheet. Badri Shrestha, Advisor to the River Front, has also been accused by the CBI. This was the dream project of the SP government.

Irregularity found in river front works
In the charge sheet, the CBI has said that the government money was monetarily distributed by the officials of the Rs 1500 crore river front project. Intentionally increased the cost of project work and raised arbitrary tenders. In this whole case, the Chief Engineer has been accused of arbitrarily benefiting his people. The allegations were also found correct that the dates of the tender were extended twice by the Chief Engineer to benefit a commission private firm Trunk Drain. The CBI team also made an arrest in the case three months ago. Former chief engineer Roop Singh Yadav and clerk Kumar Yadav have been arrested.
The case was registered in 2017
1,513 crore was approved by the SP government for the Gomti River Front. Out of which only 60 percent work has been done even after the release of Rs 1,437 crore. Even after the release of 95 percent budget, 40 percent work remained incomplete. It is alleged that the terms of the tender were changed to give the contract to the defaulting company. Around 800 tenders were withdrawn throughout the project, the authority of which was given to the Chief Engineer.
Investigation started on the arrival of Yogi government in power
The Yogi government had formed a committee headed by retired High Court Justice Alok Singh to investigate the scam. Action started in this episode only on the report of the committee. In December 2017, the CBI registered an FIR in the River Front scam. The FIR was filed against 8 persons including XEN Roop Singh Yadav, Surendra Singh Yadav, Chief Engineer Kazim Ali, Shiv Mangal Yadav, Superintending Engineer Kamleshwar Singh and the then Chief Engineer Gulase Chand. Of the 8 people against whom the CBI has registered an FIR, 7 people have retired from the department. A case was registered against all these people in the sections of executive provisional irregularities and alleged corruption. The Yogi government had recommended to the CBI to investigate the scam in the Gomti River Front Project in July 2017. In the recommendation, the report of the judicial inquiry committee, copy of FIR and other documents lodged at Gomtinagar police station were also sent along with the draft.
