Pakistan’s Iftikhar Ahmed has hit back at Wasim Akram’s criticism regarding the team’s performance in the World Cup as their chances for qualification hangs in the balance.
Pakistan’s pace bowling legend, Wasim Akram’s criticism regarding the side’s performance in the World Cup has been going viral. This has sparked the Pakistan batter, Iftikhar Ahmed to hit back for circulating such comments on the team.

In an interaction with the media, he asked the media a question, ” If the Pakistan team wins, these people do not say that we eat biriyani. Why is it that when we lose they say that we have biriyani?”
Iftikhar clarified that there is no basis for these comments and said that there is no such thing as what the rumors are implying.
Iftikhar mentioned that” Every professional cricketer evaluates themselves and sees where they stand.”
He also added, ” If someone does have biriyani or do something that tarnishes the name of our nation, then we are also against this.”
Pakistan currently sit fifth on the table as their chances of qualifying for the semi-finals are not yet confirmed.
Their chances of making it through depends on a set of outcomes going in their favour provided they win all their remaining games against New Zealand and England.
The Pakistan team has been under a lot of criticism for their performances especially with the bat. Their star batter and skipper, Babar Azam is yet to score the big runs. He has only scored 216 runs in the seven games so far which include three half-centuries.
The team has also lacked the solidity from the top as well. But in their latest game against Bangladesh, the opening pair of Abdullah Shafique and Fakhar Zaman gave the side a 100+ run partnership to make easy work of their run chase.
Other than Shaheen Afridi, none of the other bowlers have been up to the mark to provide solidity with the ball as well.
The Pakistan team now go up against New Zealand at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru tomorrow and will need to win it to remain in the race for qualifications.
