There were demonstrations all over the country and there was a lot of political uproar in this case. The matter was taken suo motu by the High Court.
- Lucknow bench heard the victim’s family on 2 November
- CBI was ordered to file a status report by 25 November
The Hathras case was heard today in the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court. The CBI filed a status report of its investigation in the court. The CBI counsel argued that we will complete our investigation by December. After hearing all the sides, the High Court Bench has reserved its decision. The next hearing in this case will now be held on 16 December.
During the hearing of the Hathras case on Wednesday in the Lucknow bench of the High Court, the state government strongly defended DM Hathras Praveen Kumar. It was said by the government that some political parties want the DM removed. However, the court expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s response. The order was passed by a bench of Justice Pankaj Mittal and Justice Rajan Roy on a public interest litigation filed in the Hathras case by ‘cognizance of the right to the funeral’ by self-knowledge. In compliance with the earlier order of the court, the CBI advocate presented the status report of the investigation so far.
CBI said – Probability to be completed by December 10
When asked by the court, the lawyer said that the investigation is likely to be completed by 10 December. He said that many forensic reports have to come in the case, due to which waiting is taking time. An affidavit was also filed by the state government. Regarding District Magistrate Hathras Praveen Kumar, it has been said on behalf of the state government that in the whole matter, the work and decision of the District Magistrate has been in good faith. Some political parties want to remove them from there, but if the government removes them, then the government officials working in good faith will be discouraged.
It was also argued by the government that the family of the deceased has not made any complaint against the District Magistrate nor has there been any mention of any interference by the District Magistrate in the investigation of the case. However, the court clearly stated that it was not satisfied with the government’s response. During the hearing, advocate Seema Kushwaha of the family of the deceased demanded the government to order the family to be given a house in Delhi. To this, the court said that cognizance on the present case has been taken for limited purpose. The court said that this is not a case of accusation. On the other hand, in case of recurrence of a case like Hathras, the court has also directed the state government to discuss further the proposed guidelines for cremation.
All four accused are currently in Sabarmati jail in Gujarat

According to sources, the narco test of the accused has been done. Whose report has been received by CBI. At the same time, the lie detection test will take about 8 days.
