In 2021, the Rann of Kutch was declared a UNESCO World Heritage.

The Great Rann of Kutch is a salt desert and is recorded as one of the largest salt deserts in the world.

On the edge of Western India, a pure white desert seems to shimmer under the blazing sun and looks soothing during sundowner. With its wide ocean of salt, the Rann of Kutch in Gujarat, home to Indiaโ€™s largest salt plain, is a spectacular region with breathtaking landscapes and rich cultural heritage. With the Arabian Sea on one side and the Thar Desert on the other, the surreal destination is located about 100 kilometres away from Bhuj. The region is divided into two distinct areas- The Great Rann and the Little Rann each offering different experiences.

While the Great Rann of Kutch is a salt desert and is recorded as one of the largest salt deserts in the world. There is also a road to heaven in the region- the 278 km long national highway from Ghaduli to Santalpur. Out of which 30 kilometres pass through the white desert. The road is from Dholavira to Dhordo Rann of Kutch. In 2021, it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage.

The road is not fully paved yet but it is already on the bucket list of many travel enthusiasts. It passes through the lake of Kutch and offers mesmerising vistas, blue water, white crystal beds lying in the blue sky and more. The construction of the road boosts tourism in the region after travellers flock to the region during the Rann Utsav which takes place during the winter months from October to February.

The construction of the road began in 2019 and is yet to be completed. The villagers in Dholavira believe that it will take another two years to complete the work on this road whereas only a one-way lane is completed for the G20 Summit which was held earlier this year. You can visit the road to heaven and Rann of Kutch from Bhuj.
