Expressing displeasure over these posts not being filled yet, the court has ordered the Principal Secretary Law to appear in the court on October 4.
This order was given by the division bench of Justice Rajan Roy and Justice Om Prakash Shukla after hearing the PIL filed by tribunal lawyer Satish Chandra. Through the petition, the petitioner told the court that the posts of Chairman, Vice Chairman and members of the Services Tribunal are lying vacant for several months, due to which the work there is not being carried out.
When asked by the court, the advocate appearing on behalf of the state government said that applications for appointment to the vacant posts have been received and the process of their selection is going on. On this reply given by the state government, the court said that during the hearing of another petition in this regard, we had passed a detailed order on 16 May 2024, even after so much time has passed, these posts have not been filled yet.
Expressing displeasure, the Court said that the work of the Services Tribunal is important, its posts cannot be kept vacant for a long time. The court also said in its order that the work to fill these posts should have been started at the same time when these posts were about to become vacant so that appointments could be made on time.
Along with this, the court has asked the Principal Secretary Law to appear in the court on October 4 and explain why the process of filling these posts was not started when these posts were becoming vacant.
