A huge consignment of ‘Padmar ilish’ is on its way from Bangladesh to satiate cravings in West Bengal and cool sizzling rates. The Sheikh Hasina government on Friday temporarily lifted the ban on hilsa exports to Bengal. Hilsa catch has been extremely poor in Bengal this year, while an abundant catch has led to a glut in Bangladesh. Fish traders in Bangladesh had lobbied the Hasina government after which a temporary concession was made.
