Mohammedan SC defeated Delhi FC, depite two players being sent off, in the 2023-24 I-League.

Mohammedan Sporting emerged 2-1 winners against Delhi FC in the 2023-24 I-League at the Namdari Stadium, Sri Bhaini Sahib on Friday.

Mohammedan shot into the lead early in the fourth minute courtesy an own goal by Delhi FC defender Gurtej Singh.

The Black and White Brigade further widened the lead in the 13th minute when Fanai Lalremsanga, who scored in the last match against TRAU too, found the net. Thereafter, despite a valiant effort, Delhi FC were unable to breach the Mohammedan defence in the first half.

Mohammedan, however, faced a setback in the first session when two of their players, Alexis Gomez and Mirjalol Kasimov, both foreign recruits, received marching orders from the referee in the 29th and 45th minutes, respectively.

Delhi FC managed to reduce the margin late in the match when Bali Gagandeep scored in the 98th minute. It turned out to be a consolation goal as there was little time left for any more actions in the outing.

With this victory, Mohammedan Sporting now move to the top spot on the table with 10 points from four matches, while Delhi FC find themselves in sixth place with four points from three outings.

Mohammedan now brace for a showdown against Rajasthan United in their next match in Hyderabad on November 18. Delhi FC’s next encounter is against Aizawl FC on November 17.
