A month after his shocking demise, Liam Payne was laid to rest in the UK in the presence of close friends and family members.
In what can be described as a quiet gathering, marked by immense grief, family and close friends came together for the funeral of One Direction star Liam Payne on Wednesday, November 20. The singer-songwriter, who drew global fame as a member of the British boy band, passed away last month at the age of 31 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His family and friends gathered at a 12-century church in the UK for the memorial service, while his former band mates Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson also reunited to pay their last respect.
While the day came with overwhelming sorrow and grief, an old tweet of the late singer has left fans even more emotional. As the funeral proceedings were underway on Wednesday, the 2010 tweet resurfaced online where a young Payne asked, “If I died would you come to ma funeral…?” Seemingly from his early days of fame, the tweet left online users heartbroken and in tears as many took to the comment section and expressed their grief.
Overwhelmed by the emotional reunion, one user wrote, “Your sweetheart boys went to accompany you and say goodbye as you would have wanted. I wish this wasn’t the reunion that you and we always wanted.”
(@Perla_Rosas) November 20, 2024
Another commented, “If I died would you come to ma funeral…?” I would sell my soul to Satan to bring you back.”

Besides Styles, Malik, Horan and Tomlinson, mourners at Wednesday’s memorial service included Simon Cowell and his fiance Lauren Silverman, James Corden, and Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Tweedy, Payne’s ex-girlfriend and also the mother of his seven-year-old son. The late singer’s parents were also seen in attendance alongside his girlfriend Katie Cassidy.
Keeping it simple yet dignified, the funeral service saw Liam Payne’s mortal remains being brought in a glass cartridge pulled by two white horses. With his casket in dark blue with silver handles and topped with white roses, the top of the carriage had floral tributes, which read “Son” and “Daddy.”
On the unfortunate day of October 16, Liam Payne fell to death from a third-floor balcony of a hotel, reportedly under the influence of alcohol and drugs. His death left his global fan base in shock with tributes pouring in for the beloved star since then.
