More than 24 hours have passed since India became the world champion of T20 cricket for the second time. India has won the T20 World Cup after 17 years. However, you probably do not know as much about the most important characters who made this victory, this dream come true, as much as should be told about them.

They are all the bowlers of the team, who snatched victory from the jaws of the opposition team in every match and put it in our bag. In this story, we will know the performance of these bowlers in the T20 World Cup and why they proved to be the true heroes of making India win the ICC trophy after 11 years.

Took 8 wickets in every match, the most among Super-8 teams
India tried the least number of players in the tournament, 12 of which were bowlers. These bowlers took 64 wickets for India in 8 matches, i.e. 8 wickets in every match. Our bowlers were on top in terms of average wickets in every match.

Runner-up South Africa’s bowlers took 65 wickets, but the team played one match more than India. This is because one of India’s matches was washed out due to rain. The bowlers of both the teams took the most wickets in the tournament, which is why the final was played between the two. However, Indian bowlers were ahead in terms of taking wickets in every match, which is why they were able to make the team champion.

3 teams were all out
India also put in a lot of effort in fielding. Due to this, the team all-outed 3 out of 8 opposition teams. In the group stage, the team could only all-out Ireland, but in the Super-8, India all-outed a strong team like Afghanistan and in the semi-finals, England.

In the 3 important matches against Pakistan, Australia and South Africa, it was the bowlers who helped India come back from almost lost matches and won the match. Let’s know the story of India’s comeback in these 3 matches…

  • Pakistan India could score only 119 runs in front of Pakistan. In 12 overs, Pakistan scored 72/2, Rizwan and Fakhar were set. Here Hardik sent Fakhar to the pavilion, Bumrah sent Rizwan to the pavilion and pushed Pakistan on the backfoot. Pakistan could score only 113 runs and India won the thrilling match by 6 runs.
  • Australia India set a score of 205 runs in front of Australia. The Kangaroos also started fast and scored 128/2 in 13 overs. Head and Maxwell were set, here Kuldeep dismissed Maxwell, Akshar dismissed Stoinis and Bumrah dismissed Head. Australia could score only 181 runs and India won by 24 runs.
  • south africa India scored 176 runs in the final against South Africa. After a slow start, Heinrich Klaasen from Africa got set. Due to his innings, South Africa needed 30 runs from 30 balls at one point. From here, Bumrah gave only 4 runs in the 16th over and in the next over, Hardik sent Klaasen to the pavilion. Arshdeep and Bumrah then gave only 6 runs in the next 2 overs and gave Hardik 16 runs to defend in the last over. He gave only 8 runs and India won the final by 7 runs.
There is a saying in cricket, big batsmen win big matches for the team, but bowlers win the entire tournament. Indian bowlers proved it right.

There is a saying in cricket, big batsmen win big matches for the team, but bowlers win the entire tournament. Indian bowlers proved it right.

Fast bowlers took the most wickets
India gave chance to 3 fast bowlers in the Super-8 stage and 4 in the group stage. Arshdeep Singh, Jaspreet Bumrah and Hardik Pandya played all the matches. Whereas Mohammad Siraj was given chance by captain Rohit Sharma on the pace friendly pitches of America.

These 4 bowlers together conceded runs at an economy rate of just 6.18 and took the highest number of wickets in the tournament, 44. That means our bowlers were taking a total of 13 wickets in every 2 matches. Which is the highest among the 20 teams. After India, here too South Africa’s fast bowlers took 41 wickets in the tournament.

The spinners were also top class, won the important semi-final
India’s semi-final match against England was held in Guyana. Here, spin was given a favorable pitch, where Kuldeep Yadav and Akshar Patel took 3-3 wickets each and pushed England on the backfoot. India’s spinners took 20 wickets in the tournament, i.e. they took 5 wickets in every 2 matches. Which is the best after South Africa and West Indies.

Now let’s also know the performance of the bowlers in the tournament…

1. Arshdeep Singh
For the second time in a row, he was India’s top wicket taker in the T20 World Cup. This time he took 17 wickets. He had taken 10 wickets in the last World Cup. Arshdeep proved to be a little expensive this time, but he took wickets in 7 out of 8 matches. He became the player of the match by taking 4 wickets against America, while in the final he took 2 wickets for just 20 runs.

2. Jasprit Bumrah
Player of the Tournament Jasprit Bumrah bowled 29.4 overs in the tournament and conceded runs at an economy of just 4.17. He conceded an average of 8 runs and took a wicket every 12th ball. In the final too, he took 2 important wickets by giving just 18 runs in 4 overs. He was also the Player of the Match against Ireland and Pakistan. With this, he became the first bowler to become the Player of the Tournament in T20 World Cup history.

3. Hardik Pandya
Hardik Pandya, who bowled his best in the final, gave away 10 runs in the first over against South Africa. He made a comeback from here and sent the dangerous Heinrich Klaasen to the pavilion on the very first ball of his second over. He then defended 16 runs in the last over and gave India the victory. Before this, he had taken 3 wickets against Ireland and 2-2 wickets against America and Pakistan.

4. Kuldeep Yadav
Kuldeep could not play a single match in the group stage because the matches were held in America, where the pitches were helpful for fast bowlers. Kuldeep started getting opportunities from Super-8, he took wickets in every match and took 10 wickets in just 4 matches. In the semi-final against England, he took 3 wickets for just 19 runs.

Kuldeep proved to be a game changer in all the matches of the Super-8 stage. He was a bit expensive in the final and gave away 45 runs in 4 overs, but this does not overshadow his performance in the last 4 matches. He is India’s game changer and he proved it in this tournament.

5. Axar Patel
Like Kuldeep, Akshar also shone for India with his bowling in the Super-8 stage. His batting was also amazing, who can forget his catch on the boundary against Australia, which took the wicket of Mitchell Marsh and brought India back into the match. Akshar also proved to be a bit expensive like Arshdeep, but like him, Akshar also took wickets in 7 out of 8 matches.

Akshar remained expensive in the final as well, but he gave India its third success by bowling out Tristan Stubbs. In the semi-final, he sent English captain Jos Buttler, Johnny Bairstow and Moeen Ali to the pavilion within 8 overs. He also became the Player of the Semi-final for this performance.

Now the performance of those 2 bowlers, who may not have taken many wickets, but whenever the need arose, they showed their importance…

1. Ravindra Jadeja
Like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, 35-year-old all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja also retired from T20 International. He got his only wicket in the tournament against Afghanistan. He could bowl only 1-1 overs against South Africa and Australia, but in the semi-finals he gave away just 16 runs in 3 overs. Apart from this, he also kept the pressure on the opposition batsmen by bowling very tight against Bangladesh, Ireland and Pakistan.

2. Mohammed Siraj
Siraj got a chance to play in 3 matches of the group stage, in his place Kuldeep got a chance in the Super-8 stage. Siraj played his role well and took one wicket in the first 3 matches by giving runs at an economy of just 5.18. Against Ireland, he gave 13 runs in 3 overs, against Pakistan he gave 19 runs in 4 overs and against America he gave just 25 runs in 4 overs.
