Controversy erupted during the match between India and Qatar in Doha.
India’s hopes of reaching the FIFA World Cup 2026 are over. After losing 2-1 to Qatar, the Indian team has been eliminated from the World Cup qualifiers.
FIFA World Cup 2026 is scheduled to be held in the US, Mexico and Canada from June 11. Qualifiers are being played for the World Cup. On Tuesday, a match was played between India and Qatar at Jassim Bin Ahmed Stadium in Doha. In this match, India was leading from the beginning. However, due to poor refereeing, Qatar got the first lead and the team won the match 2-1. With this, India missed out on reaching the third round of the World Cup qualifiers.
Indian team got the lead in the first half
The Indian team scored a goal in the first half and took a 1-0 lead over Qatar. In the 37th minute of the game, Brandon passed the ball to Lalianzuala Chanchte from the edge of the goal box. Chanchte slid and scored a goal and gave India a 1-0 lead.

Qatar equalised due to poor refereeing
In the second half of the match, in the 75th minute, Qatar’s Yusuf Ayman played a head shot. India’s wicketkeeper Gurpreet stopped the header and the ball went out of the line of play. However, no whistle was blown by the referee. After this, Qatar’s Al Hasan took the ball in and Ayman scored a goal. On this, the Indian players protested against scoring a goal after the ball went out of the line of play. After watching the replay, the referee ruled in favor of Qatar and the score was tied 1-1 for Qatar.
Ahmed Al Rawi scored the goal to put the team ahead 2-1
In the 85th minute of the match, Ahmed Al-Rawi scored the second goal for Qatar and gave the team a 2-1 win. He took a brilliant kick from the edge of India’s goal box which goalkeeper Gurpreet could not stop. The Indian team could not score any goal in the second half. Meanwhile, in the second qualifier, Kuwait defeated Afghanistan 1-0 and made it to the third round.
