The first day’s play of the ongoing first India-New Zealand Test at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru was washed out due to rain, and rain is expected to impact the play on Day 2 as well.

After playing spoilsport on Day 1 of the ongoing first Test of the three-match series between India and New Zealand at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru rain is expected to impact the second dayโ€™s play of the match as well. According to AccuWeather forecast for Thursday (October 17), there are 14% chances of rain in Bengaluru around 9 AM, and it will increase to 44% by 10 AM. There are 51% chances of rain around 12 PM, and the percentage will drop down to 32% around 2 PM.

But after that, once again, thereโ€™s a high chance of rain (36โ€“51%) from 3 to 6 PM. Due to rain, no play was possible on Day 1 of the first Test, and fans can expect a similar fate on Thursday as well.

After the first dayโ€™s play was washed out, BCCI, in a tweet, announced the revised timings for the second dayโ€™s play, according to which the action on Day 2 will start at 9:15 AM. Usually Test matches in India start at 9:30 AM, but it was decided to start the game 15 minutes early on Thursday.

The ongoing Test against New Zealand is a must-win for the Rohit Sharma-led Indian menโ€™s cricket team if it wants to confirm its place in the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025. If India manages to whitewash New Zealand in the ongoing three-match series, then even after losing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India will qualify for the WTC final next year.

India is coming into the first Test against New Zealand after whitewashing Bangladesh in Test and T20I series. India won the Test series opener against the Najmul Hossain Shanto-led side by 280 runs in Chennai and defeated them by 7 wickets in the second Test played at Green Park in Kanpur from September 27 to October 1.

India has won seven out of eight Tests played so far in 2024, and the hosts will be desperate to maintain the top show against the Kiwis as well, who are coming into the series after losing four Tests in a row and will also miss the services of star batter Kane Williamson in the series opener due to a groin injury.
