Team India has made it to the final of the T20 World Cup by defeating Australia and then England. The team will play the title match against South Africa in Barbados on June 29. India avenged its defeat in the 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia and the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final against England and defeated both of them and knocked them out of the tournament.
Not just 1 or 2 but 9 players played a vital role in India’s 7 consecutive victories. The performance of the other 3 players who were part of the team’s playing-11 may not have been that good, but these players definitely made a significant contribution to the team on some occasions.
Won 7 matches, 6 players Player of the Match
India is undefeated in this T20 World Cup, the team won 3-3 matches in the group and Super-8 stage. The group match against Canada was inconclusive, while the team defeated England in the semi-finals. In these 7 matches, 6 different players were Player of the Match.
India did not experiment much in the tournament and gave chances to only 12 players in 8 matches. Kuldeep Yadav was brought in place of Mohammad Siraj who played the first 3 matches. Kuldeep played the later 4 matches. Apart from India, South Africa tried the least number of players i.e. 12 in the tournament. Both the teams reached the final, all the other teams gave chances to 13, 14 or even 15 players.
Now let’s know the performance of the players who took India to the T20 World Cup finals after 10 years…
1. Top-3 Batsmen
- Rohit Sharma: Captain Rohit scored a fifty against Ireland on the difficult pitch of New York. He continued his attacking role for the next 4 matches, but was unsuccessful. Rohit then scored 92 runs in 41 balls against Australia. He also scored an important fifty in the semi-finals and shared a match-winning partnership of 75 runs with Surya. The captain is also the top run scorer of the team.
- Suryakumar Yadav: Suryakumar could not do anything special against Ireland and Pakistan, but he took charge of the team after the first 3 wickets fell against America. Surya scored a fifty and led the team to victory. He became the Player of the Match by scoring a half-century against Afghanistan. Surya scored 31 runs in 16 balls against Australia, 47 runs in 36 balls against England and led the team to a big score. He is close to scoring 200 runs in the tournament.
- Rishabh Pant: Wicketkeeper Pant could not do anything special against Australia and England, but he played a key role in the victory by scoring 42 runs against Pakistan and 36 runs each on a difficult pitch against Ireland and Bangladesh. He also took 3 important catches against Pakistan. Pant has taken the most number of catches in the tournament, i.e. 11, and has also done one stumping.
2. Top-3 all-rounders
- Hardik Pandya: Vice-captain Hardik performed well in batting, bowling and fielding. He took 3 wickets against Ireland and 2 wickets each against Pakistan and America. After bowling well in the group stage, Hardik played important innings of 32 against Afghanistan, 27 against Australia and 23 against England. Against Bangladesh, he scored a fifty in just 27 balls and took a wicket, for this performance he became the Player of the Match.
- Axar Patel: Akshar, the player of the match in the semi-finals, proved to be India’s second best all-rounder and second best spinner in the tournament. Before taking 3 wickets against England, he had taken 1 wicket in every match except Bangladesh. He has taken 8 wickets in the tournament by bowling only 18 overs at an economy of 6.88. Apart from this, he has also scored 45 runs in the lower order at a strike rate of 128.57. Against Australia, he took a brilliant one-handed catch of Mitchell Marsh by jumping in the air at the deep square leg position, which proved to be the turning point.
- Shivam Dubey: Dubey got a chance to bowl one over against America, in which he conceded 11 runs. Apart from this, he did not bowl any over in the tournament. However, he played short but useful innings against Bangladesh (34), America (31*) and Australia (28).
3. Top-3 bowlers
- Arshdeep Singh: Arshdeep could not take any wicket in the semi-finals, but he did take at least one wicket in every match before this. He took one wicket against Pakistan, but he took 2-2 wickets against Ireland and Bangladesh. He proved to be a bit expensive against Afghanistan and Australia, but he also took 3-3 wickets. Arshdeep took 4 wickets for just 9 runs against America and was the Player of the Match. This was also the best bowling by any Indian in T20 World Cup history.
- Jasprit Bumrah: Bumrah, who returned after injury in the ODI World Cup, is the most important and crucial player of Team India. In the 25.4 overs he has bowled so far, he has conceded runs at an economy of just 4.12. He is taking a wicket every 12th ball and giving away 8 runs. Bumrah, who was the Player of the Match against Ireland and Pakistan, is the second top wicket taker of the team with a total of 13 wickets.
- Kuldeep Yadav: Kuldeep, who missed 4 matches in the group stage, played his first match in the Super-8. He took 3 wickets for just 19 runs against England. Kuldeep was not named Player of the Match even once, but his impact was huge. He took 2-2 wickets against Australia and Bangladesh and 3 wickets against Afghanistan. Kuldeep is getting a wicket on every 10th ball and giving away 9 runs.
4. The contribution of these players is important, but the expectations are higher
- Virat Kohli: Team India experimented in the tournament and sent Kohli, who batted at number-3, to open the innings. He failed miserably at this position and could only score 1, 4 and 0 in the first 3 innings. In the Super-8, he then scored 24 against Afghanistan and 37 against Bangladesh. It seemed as if Virat was back in form, but he got out without opening his account against Australia. He could score only 9 runs against England as well. It is clear from this that he is not liking opening in the West Indies, although Kohli, who has been the Player of the Tournament twice in the T-20 World Cup, definitely has one last chance left to prove himself against South Africa in the final.
- Ravindra Jadeja: So far he has got the chance to bowl only 13 overs, in which he took one wicket against Afghanistan. He did not get much chance to bowl, but he created pressure and conceded runs at an economy of just 6.88. He could play only 20 balls in 4 innings, but scored the highest runs in the team at a strike rate of 165.
- Mohammed Siraj: Siraj played as the team’s third pacer in the first 3 matches of the group stage. He bowled 11 overs and gave runs at an excellent economy of 5.18. He got only one wicket, but he was successful in creating constant pressure.
