The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been graced by many top-quality bowlers over the years. Kolkata Knight Riders made it clear when they signed Australia pacer Mitchell Starc for Rs 24.75 crore at the latest IPL auction. The second costliest player was another Aussie speedster Pat Cummins, who joined Sunrisers Hyderabad at Rs 20.50 crore. Alzarri Joseph โ€“ 6/12:

Windies pacer Alzarri Joseph recorded the best bowling figures in IPL history for Mumbai Indians in the 2019 season. In a group-league match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Joseph gave away only 12 runs in 3.4 overs which included a maiden. He fetched a six-wicket haul that helped Mumbai defend a 137-run target.

Sohail Tanvir โ€“ 6/14:

In 2008, when Pakistani players were allowed to compete in the IPL, Sohail Tanvir โ€“ as part of Rajasthan Royals โ€“ won the Purple Cap after taking 22 wickets. One of his best performances came against Chennai Super Kings in a league fixture. The former Pakistani pacer took six wickets while conceding only 14 runs during his four-over spell.

Adam Zampa โ€“ 6/19:

Adam Zampa has been quite successful in the IPL despite his limited appearance in the T20 tournament. In 2016, when his team Rajasthan Royals were not part of the competition, Zampa played for Rising Pune Supergiant under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. In a match against Hyderabad, the Australian spinner scalped six wickets while giving away just 19 runs. Thanks to his remarkable spell, Pune managed to restrict Hyderabad to 137 runs.

Anil Kumble โ€“ 5/5:

Anil Kumble put up one of the most economical bowling performances in IPL history during a match against Rajasthan Royals in 2009. Representing Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Kumble conceded only five runs and picked as many wickets in his 3.1 overs. The Rajasthan batting unit surrendered early in front of Kumble as they were bundled out for 58 runs.

Akash Madhwal โ€“ 5/5:

The 2023 IPL Eliminator was headlined by Mumbai Indians pacer Akash Madhwal. The Indian fast bowler destroyed the Lucknow Super Giantsโ€™ batting department and claimed a five-wicket haul in his 3.2 overs. Riding on his exceptional performance, Mumbai beat Lucknow by 81 runs to reach the second qualifier.

Jasprit Bumrah โ€“ 5/10:

Jasprit Bumrah, who has 145 IPL wickets under his belt, has helped Mumbai Indians secure many hard-fought victories since 2013. Bumrah recorded his best bowling figures in the tournament against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2022. He fetched five wickets while giving away only 10 runs in his four-over spell as Mumbai beat KKR by 52 runs.

Mohit Sharma โ€“ 5/10:

In Qualifier 2 of the 2023 IPL, Mohit Sharma was the top-performing bowler for Gujarat Titans, who triumphed over Mumbai Indians to confirm their place in the final. Mohit bowled only 2.2 overs and sent off five opposition batters. Thanks to his wicket-taking spree, Mumbai fell 62 runs short of a mammoth 234-run target.

Ishant Sharma โ€“ 5/12:

There were many occasions when an IPL team was bundled out for a two-digit score. One such instance unfolded in the 2011 edition. Ishant Sharma, as part of the now-defunct Deccan Chargers, grabbed a five-fer to demolish the batting unit of another former franchise, Kochi Tuskers Kerala. The Indian pacer gave away only 12 runs during his three-over spell as Deccan Chargers folded their innings at 74.

Lasith Malinga โ€“ 5/13:

Lasith Malinga, a loyal member of the Mumbai Indians family, dished out his best-ever IPL performance during a league match against Delhi in 2011. The Sri Lankan legend ripped through the oppositionโ€™s top order and got five wickets under his belt. Malinga conceded 13 runs in his 3.4 overs including a maiden.

Ankit Rajpoot โ€“ 5/14:

During the 2018 IPL, Ankit Rajpoot, an uncapped Indian pacer, hogged the limelight by claiming a five-wicket haul for Punjab Kings. He achieved the feat in a group fixture against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Despite his top-notch performance, Punjab ended up losing the low-scoring clash by 13 runs.
