Israeli PM Netanyahu vows retaliation after thwarted missile attack from Iran.
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu warns Iran made a ‘big mistake’ with its missile attack and vowed retaliation, thanking the US for support in thwarting the strike.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has issued a strong warning to Iran, declaring that it made a “big mistake” with its missile attack on Israel. Speaking at the opening of the security cabinet meeting in Jerusalem, Netanyahu stated that the Iranian missile strike, which occurred on Tuesday, had “failed” due to Israel’s advanced air defence system. He expressed gratitude to the United States for its support in thwarting the attack.
“The regime in Iran does not understand our determination to defend ourselves and retaliate against our enemies,” Netanyahu said, adding that the leaders of Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran have underestimated Israel’s resolve. He said that “whoever attacks us — we will attack them,” reaffirming Israel’s stance against threats from its adversaries in the region, including Gaza, Lebanon, Yemen, Syria and Iran.
Netanyahu also called for global unity against Iran, urging the “forces of light in the world” to stand by Israel. He framed the conflict as a clear choice between tyranny and freedom and vowed to continue Israel’s efforts to ensure its security, return hostages and secure the nation’s future.
Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian responded via his official X account, justifying the missile strikes as a defence against Israeli aggression. He warned Netanyahu against escalating the conflict, stating, “Let Netanyahu know that Iran is not a belligerent, but it stands firmly against any threat. This is only a corner of our power. Do not enter into a conflict with Iran.”
Earlier in the day, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that Iran had launched hundreds of missiles across Israel, prompting widespread Red Alerts. Over 10 million Israelis were at risk, and civilians were urged to take shelter in bomb shelters as the missile barrage targeted central and southern regions of the country.
