Jeremy Strong has chosen to leave behind his iconic character, Kendall Roy from Succession and is eager to explore new opportunities. In a recent interview with The Times, the actor revealed that he doesn’t miss playing the character he portrayed for four seasons. Strong called the series “an incredible gift” but admitted that Kendall’s struggles were tough to handle for seven years. While he appreciated the rich material of the show, the actor mentioned that the experience of playing such a complex character, “f****d him up.” Although he won an Emmy in 2020 for his performance, Strong has no plans to reprise his role in any rumoured spinoff.
The actor said, “It f****d me up. I’ve rediscovered play. I sometimes lost touch with joy. That show was an incalculable gift. The material a banquet. So I miss that. But Kendall’s struggle was difficult to carry for seven years. And there’s just so much more I want to do.”
When asked about the possibility of reprising Kendall Roy in a spinoff series, Jeremy Strong stated, “It’s not something I have any wish to do any longer. I’m aware it is one of the main chapters of my life, but I don’t miss it.”
Jeremy further mentioned that he recently attended a silent meditation retreat to find some peace. The actor adds that he needed this break to escape the chaos and constant work in his life. The retreat provided him a chance to recharge and clear his mind. After this experience, he was relaxed and focused. Strong also shared that he is excited about new opportunities in his career that he had only dreamed of before.
Now, Jeremy Strong will be seen as lawyer Roy Cohn in the upcoming Donald Trump biopic, The Apprentice. Speaking with The New York Times, he explained that after playing Kendall Roy in Succession, he quickly stepped into the shoes of Cohn to help move on from his previous character. After the show wrapped up, Strong wondered if it was the most important event of his life. Strong pointed out that Cohn had a major impact on American history, especially on the former US president. While Strong may have personal opinions about Cohn, he highlighted that his job as an actor is to explore the character without passing judgment.
The Apprentice also stars Sebastian Stan as Trump, Martin Donovan and Maria Bakalova.
