39 children saved, 16 injured in Jhansi accident The incident took place at Jhansi Medical College on Sunday night, when a sudden fire broke out in the infant ward of the hospital. Hospital officials say that at that time 49 newborn children were admitted in the infant ward, out of which 39 were taken out safely, but 10 children lost their lives in the fire. 16 children have also been seriously injured in this accident, who are undergoing treatment.
Echo of Gorakhpur incident heard again The Gorakhpur accident once again reminded us of the horrific incident that occurred in 2017 at BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur, when more than 50 children died due to lack of oxygen. This incident took place between August 7 and 12, when suddenly the oxygen supply to the hospital stopped. At that time, children admitted in NNU and encephalitis ward were its victims. This accident shook the entire state.
Gorakhpur government’s statement on oxygen crisis During investigation in Gorakhpur, it was also revealed that the hospital had not paid Rs 69 lakh to the oxygen supply company, due to which the oxygen supply was stopped. However, the UP government had claimed that the children died not due to lack of oxygen but due to encephalitis.
Suspicion of negligence in Jhansi accident Many questions are being raised in this incident that happened in Jhansi. There were no effective arrangements to extinguish the fire in the infant ward of the hospital. According to reports, fire extinguishing cylinders were also not working. Whereas the hospital administration should have taken all necessary safety measures to deal with such accidents.
Serious questions raised on safety standards In this accident in Jhansi, along with the questions of negligence, serious questions are also being raised on the security arrangements made by the government and administration. This accident has once again raised questions about lack of safety standards and responsibility in hospitals.
