1. Turkish government banned Instagram:
On August 2, Turkey banned the social media platform Instagram. The country’s information technology regulator announced the ban, but did not give a reason or duration for it.
Earlier, from 2007-2010, video sharing platform YouTube was also banned in Turkey.
Turkey has banned Instagram after the comments of communication officer Fahrettin Altun. Altun had talked about blocking condolence messages on the killing of Hamas chief Asmail Haniyeh on Instagram. Instagram was started by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger in 2010. In 2012, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg bought Instagram for $1 billion. Instagram’s market value in 2024 is around $500 billion.
2. India gave two ports to Maldives:
On August 1, the central government has announced to give two additional ports to Maldives. Now Maldives will be able to use Kandla Sea (INIXY1) and Visakhapatnam Sea Port (INYTZ1) for goods export.
Kandla and Visakhapatnam customs sea ports will be used for export of important goods.
Kandla Port is located in Kutch district of Gujarat, India. It is the largest port in the country, the responsibility of which lies with the Kandla Port Trust. This port is connected to the whole world for import-export. It is the only major port of Visakhapatnam Andhra Pradesh. It is the third largest port in the country and the largest port on the east coast.

Railway Recruitment Board, Mumbai has announced recruitment for 7,934 posts of Junior Engineer. The application process for this recruitment is ongoing. Candidates can apply by visiting the official website rrbapply.gov.in.

1. Supreme Court gives final verdict on NEET paper leak case
The Supreme Court on Friday (August 2) said that there was no systematic breach in the NEET-UG exam, that is, no systematic irregularities were found in this exam. The paper was leaked only in two centers, Patna and Hazaribagh.
The court has asked the expert committee formed for monitoring NTA to prepare SOP for NEET. Also, identify the loopholes in cyber security. The committee has been asked to reply by September 30.
2. NTA released subject wise schedule for re-examination of UGC NET June exam
National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the subject wise schedule for the re-examination of UGC NET June exam. The exams will be held from 21 August to 4 September. Candidates can check the complete schedule by visiting ugcnet.nta.ac.in.
