After storming into the limelight with his exploits in IPL, Sai Sudharsan is gearing up for international cricket.

Two years after making his domestic debut for Tamil Nadu, talented top-order batter B Sai Sudharsan has been given a maiden India call-up as he was included in their ODI squad for the upcoming tour of South Africa.

The 22-year-old batter made everyone sit up and take notice following his eye-catching performances in the IPL including a blistering 96 against Chennai Super Kings in the title clash earlier this year.

Long been singled out for bigger things, Sudharsan has continued to justified the hype through his performances across formats.

Currently part of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, he began the one-day tournament in style with a century and in a few daysโ€™ time, will get to live his India dream.

โ€œIt is a great feeling, and I am a bit lost for words,โ€ Sudharsan told Sportstar after ODI call-up. โ€œIt is a dream come true for me, but at the same time, this is just the beginning, and there are many areas where I need to improve.โ€

Sudharsan averages an excellent 65.05 in List A cricket having scored 1236 runs in 22 matches including six centuries and four fifties so far.

He credited IPL and Tamil Nau Premier League (TNPL) for his progress.

โ€œI think the TNPL in 2021 and this yearโ€™s IPL have been some of the key moments in my career so far and helped me progress. I learnt a lot playing in all these tournaments, and the exposure it has given me has helped me improve as a batter,โ€ Sudharsan said.

Indiaโ€™s South Africa tour gets underway from December 10 with a three-match T20I series followed by three ODIs from December 17.

The youngster though isnโ€™t thinking about the tour yet as heโ€™s currently focused on doing well for Tamil Nadu in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

โ€œBut my first goal is to just focus on my match tomorrow (Friday) against Punjab and help the team qualify for the knockouts,โ€ he said.

The 16-man India squad will be led by wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul.
