A commission of inquiry has been set up under the apex court’s former judge BS Chauhan to investigate the Kanpur shootout. It has former Allahabad High Court judge Shashikant Aggarwal, former DGP L Gupta member.
- The accused of the Kanpur shootout, Praveen alias Buan, was killed in an encounter on 9 July in Etawah.
- The Kanpur police had placed a reward of 50 thousand on Praveen, the commission of inquiry got the incident recreated.
Eight policemen, including CO, were killed by gangster Vikas Dubey in Bikeru village under Chaubepur police station area in Kanpur, on the night of July 2, when the police team arrived at Dabish. A three-member Commission of Inquiry has been formed on the orders of the Supreme Court to investigate the matter. Commission members reached Etawah under the leadership of former Supreme Court judge BS Chauhan on Thursday. Here on July 9, Vikas Dubey’s special partner Praveen alias Buan Dubey was killed in an encounter by the STF.

Former judge BS Chauhan, Allahabad High Court judge Shashikant Aggarwal and former DGP KL Gupta asked the officers the story of the night of the encounter. The accused who attacked the police team along with Vikas Dubey escaped after the Bikeru scandal. In whose search, UP STF was engaged. Police had received information regarding the robbery of a car by unidentified miscreants riding 4 Scorpio near the town of Maheva under the police station in Etawah. After this, during the checking of vehicles, there was an encounter between the police and the miscreants on Kachora Ghat Road under Police Civil Line area at around 3 pm. In which Praveen Dubey was killed. His other companions managed to escape. He had a reward of 50 thousand rupees. 1 pistol and 1 double gun 12 bore and cartridges were recovered from the spot.
