An eagle-eyed Bollywood fan sparked discussions on Reddit, after suggesting that Kiara Advani might play Meena Kumari, in Kamal aur Meena.

Director Siddharth P Malhotra is set to bring the fascinating love story of filmmaker Kamal Amrohi and actress Meena Kumari to the big screen in his upcoming film, Kamal aur Meena. While the movie is scheduled for release in 2026, the makers have kept the cast details under wraps. Recently, an eagle-eyed Bollywood fan sparked discussions on Reddit, after suggesting that Kiara Advani might step into the shoes of India’s Tragedy Queen. Their curiosity grew after noticing Kiara’s like on the teaser and discovered that the director recently started following the Shershaah actress on Instagram. He has also dropped comments on her posts, which further fuelled these rumours.

To prove their point, the individual even attached a screenshot of Kiara’s reaction on the announcement post and Siddharth’s playful comment on the actress’ social media photos. The user wrote, “Although still quite early to say but director of the Meena Kumari biopic recently started following Kiara and continues to comment on her last 3, 4 posts now. Kiara is also the only actress to like the announcement video of the movie.”

While making the announcement in September, director Siddharth P Malhotra wrote, “Kamal Aur Meena – a cinematic experience that promises to capture one of the most iconic love stories in the history of Hindi cinema. Kamal Aur Meena will bring to life the epic, real-life romance between the legendary director and screenwriter Kamal Amrohi and the celebrated actress Meena Kumari. With access to over 500 handwritten letters exchanged between Kamal Sahaab and Meenaji as well as personal journals detailing their life together, the insights and research we have in telling this story is invaluable. It’s a profound privilege to direct this incredible true story, though the responsibility is immense.”

“Their relationship was one of deep love and artistic collaboration, spanning over 20 years from their first meeting when she was just 18 and he was 34, from the creation to shoot and release, the legacy of Pakeezah, I’m glad to be allowed to get a stellar team of Bhavani Iyer Kausar Munir along with Kamil Irshad and the maestro himself AR Rahman sir to compose and score the music of the film. We, as a team, will do more than our best to deliver a memorable cinematic experience,” the filmmaker added.

Interestingly, fashion designer Manish Malhotra has also announced a biopic focused on Meena Kumari’s life, featuring actress Kriti Sanon in the lead role. However, earlier this year, Mid-Day reported that the project has been delayed for unknown reasons. The movie is likely to go on floors in early 2025.
