Police arrested three accused for cheating, selling fake diamond rings

  • The siege was traced to their car number seen on CCTV

The Jawahar Nagar police station of the city has arrested three, including husband and wife, on charges of cheating from bullion traders. All three are vicious thugs hailing from Kanpur, UP. They used to sell counterfeit diamonds to traders and in return used to take gold jewelery. On February 6, the three together committed a cheating incident at a shop in Talwandi. Here, he gave away a diamond ring to the businessman and escaped with two gold chains and four coins instead. Police arrested the trio with the help of CCTV. 7 lakh 73 thousand gold and one and a half lakh cash was recovered from the accused.

DSP Ankit Jain said that the accused are very vicious. They used to collect information about big shops through social media, then planned the crime. It was revealed in the inquiry that the accused have cheated at 4 shops in the district.

Fake ID used

The arrested Mohammed Wasik (27), Ghazala Mansuri wife Mohammad Wasik (34) and Anas Ahmed (23) used a luxury car in the incident. Police has also got three fake IDs from them. They have different name Aadhar cards and voter cards. The hotel did not stay for more than a day. People used to change hotels everyday with the help of fake IDs.

During the crime, they used to show the fake diamond ring bill and certificate to the merchant. They made the shopkeeper realize that the diamond ring did not suit him. They did not ask for money by selling fake diamonds. Used to take gold jewelery instead. When there was less money, they used to give money to the merchant from above.

Caught in this way

After the incident in Talwandi, the victim had complained to the police station on 7 February. After this, the police came into action. The police searched the CCTV cameras nearby. Reported to the police stations of luxury car numbers. The location of the accused was found between Gumanpura to Baba Chauraha on horseback. On this, the Gumanpura SHO reached the spot and nabbed the accused. The police is engaged in questioning the accused. In the interrogation, the possibility of cheating more cases is being opened.
