Team India has landed with three spinners in the Chennai Test against England. Despite this, left arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav did not get a chance in the playing-11. Left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem, who was kept in standby, was given a chance when Akshar Patel was injured. Along with the fans, many cricket experts are also questioning this decision of the team management. Earlier, he did not get a single Test in Australia. While the team tried 20 players there. Bhaskar spoke to Kuldeep’s coach Kapil Pandey on this issue.
If there is a lack of bowling, then there is no place in the team
Kapil Pandey said, ‘Kuldeep is in good rhythm. If his bowling was lacking, he would not be included in the squad every time. He came to Kanpur after returning from Australia tour. He took four wickets in a club match. I saw him bowling. I can say with the claim that they are in the best rhythm.
Team management will be focused on lower order batting
Kapil Pandey said, ‘Akshar Patel is a left arm orthodox spinner. After his injury, another left arm orthodox spinner Nadeem was selected. England batsmen had trouble playing Lasith Ambuldenia in Sri Lanka. Ambuldenia is also a left-arm Audox bowler. As far as giving place to Sundar is concerned, it is possible that the team management is looking to strengthen the batting of the lower order. Sundar batted well in the Brisbane Test.
Kuldeep will prove himself when given a chance
Pandey said, ‘Kuldeep is waiting for a chance. I hope he will prove himself again when he gets the chance. Team India’s bowling coach Bharat Arun has also said that Kuldeep is in form. Many times team management has to take decision by looking at many aspects. I hope he gets a chance ahead.
Kuldeep played last test in January 2019
Kuldeep Yadav played his last Test match against Australia in Sydney in January 2019. In that match, he also had the feat of taking 5 wickets in the innings. Kuldeep has taken 24 wickets in 6 Tests so far.
Many former players raised questions
Former Team India cricketer Mohammad Kaif expressed displeasure over Kuldeep not being included in the playing-11. He said, ‘Till two years ago, Kuldeep used to be the first choice of the Indian team as a spinner. But he has to wait to join the team. They should not be disappointed and take inspiration from Ashwin and Pant and strive for a comeback. Another former Test cricketer Gautam Gambhir has also expressed surprise at not playing Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammad Siraj. He said that giving two off spinners a chance is beyond comprehension.
