Kulwant Khejroliya of Madhya Pradesh took 5 wickets for 34 runs.
The results of the sixth round of Ranji Trophy came on Monday. Madhya Pradesh's left arm fast bowler Kulwant Khejroliya achieved the feat of taking 4 wickets in 4 balls. He became only the third bowler to do so in Ranji. On the basis of his performance, Madhya Pradesh defeated Baroda by an innings margin.
On the other hand, Kerala spinner Jalaj Saxena took 9 wickets for just 68 runs in the innings. He became only the sixth bowler to do so. On his own strength the team defeated Bengal by 109 runs.
Madhya Pradesh won due to Khejroliya's performance
Kulwant Khejroliya wrapped up Baroda's innings by taking 4 wickets in 4 balls in the second innings. He took a total of 5 wickets for 34 runs in the innings. Baroda could score only 270 runs, the team had scored 132 runs in the first innings. Madhya Pradesh had scored 454 runs in the first innings, hence the team won by an innings and 52 runs.
Kulwant Khejroliya has also played IPL. He took 4 wickets in 4 balls and helped Madhya Pradesh win by an innings.
Third bowler to take 4 wickets in 4 balls
Before Khejroliya, only two bowlers could take 4 wickets in 4 balls in Ranji. Mohammad Mudassir of Jammu and Kashmir and Shankar Saini of Delhi have achieved the feat of taking 4 wickets in 4 balls in Ranji Trophy. Saini did this in 1995 and Mudassir in 2015.
Jalaj Saxena is the first bowler from Kerala to take 9 wickets.
37 year old all-rounder Jalaj Saxena took 9 wickets in the first innings against Bengal. He gave only 68 runs. He became the sixth bowler to take 9 wickets in an innings of Ranji Trophy and the first bowler from Kerala to do so.
The record of best bowling in Ranji was made by Ankit Chavan of Mumbai in 2012. He took 9 wickets for just 23 runs against Punjab.
Bengal team could score only 180 runs in the first innings. Kerala, on the other hand, scored 363 runs in the first innings. They declared the second innings at the score of 265/6. Jalaj also took 4 wickets in the second innings. Bengal team could score only 339 runs in the second innings, due to which they lost the match by 109 runs.
Jalaj Saxena became the sixth bowler to take 9 wickets in Ranji Trophy.
Mumbai and Tripura took lead in the drawn match
The match between Mumbai and Chhattisgarh was a draw. Mumbai took the lead in the first innings, hence they got an extra point. The match between Chandigarh and Tripura was a draw. Here Tripura took the lead in the first innings.
The final of plate group will be held in Hyderabad-Meghalaya
The 7th round matches in the Elite Group will start from 16th February. Whereas the semi-finals have been played in the plate group. Hyderabad defeated Nagaland by an innings and 68 runs to reach the final. While Meghalaya defeated Mizoram by 6 wickets. The match will be played from 17th February.
There are 4 groups in the elite stage. Quarter-final matches will be played between the top 2 teams of each group from 23 February. The final of Ranji Trophy will be held from 10 to 14 March. In Ranji, the league stage matches last for 4 days and the knockout stage matches last for 5 days.
Hyderabad has made it to the final of Ranji Trophy Plate Group.
