The much awaited film Joker 2 is expected to hit theatres this October, and as the release date gets closer, fans are in for a surprise. Lady Gaga, who stars alongside Joaquin Phoenix in the movie, had previously announced that the first single from her upcoming seventh studio album would be released next month. In the latest, she revealed about the launch of Harlequin, the soundtrack album for the upcoming film Joker: Folie et Deux.
Harlequin will be released on September 27 with 13 songs. Sharing the poster for the same, Lady Gaga wrote, “Harlequin. September 27. A companion album to Joker: Folie à Deux.” Fans have been very excited after the announcement of the popstars back to back releases. One of them stated, “You are the greatest pop artist of the generation,” while another exclaimed, “We are ready.”
Lady Gaga plays the role Harleen Quinzel in the musical sequel to the mega-hit DC drama Joker. Speaking about the film, the popstar told Vogue, “I wrote a waltz for the movie. And I had a live piano player, Alex Smith, whom I asked to be with me for my scenes. There are moments in the film where I’m playing an adult woman who sings like a little girl. And she’s moving through the world with this kind of immaturity, which I thought was interesting.”
Joker 2 opened at the Venice Film Festival earlier this month and received a standing ovation. Videos circulating online showed the audience bursting in ovation, with cheers for Gaga and Joaquin filling the theatre. During the extended standing ovation, the actors were seen having a deep chat.
Joker: Folie a Deux is a follow-up to Todd Phillips’ 2019 film Joker, taking place after the events of the previous film. Arthur Fleck, aka The Joker, is currently in the asylum awaiting trial. As the story progresses, he eventually meets his true love and escapes free. The movie casts Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener and Zazie Beetz in significant roles. The first Joker film was also screened at the Venice Film Festival, where it earned the prestigious Golden Lion. In addition, the film received the Academy Award for Best Actor for Phoenix’s performance.
