Maharashtra elections 2024: As of 5 pm, the state’s voting percentage stood at 58%, Mumbai’s at 49.7% voting. A look at the 2019 numbers

Maharashtra cast its votes for the 288 assembly seats on Wednesday, the results of which will be announced on November 23.

While as of 5 pm, the state’s voting percentage stood at 58%, Mumbai saw 49.7% voting. Based on the Election Commission’s (EC) updated numbers, the figures will be updated on Thursday.

Mumbai is divided into 36 assembly constituencies – 10 ten in the island city and 26 in the suburban district. A total of 410 candidates are contesting this time; among them are 105 from the island city and 315 from the suburbs. Among seats that saw low turnout were Colaba at 41.6%, Dharavi 46.15%, Worli 47.5%, Kalyan West 41%. Gadhchiroli and Igatpuri topped in the turnout at 70%.

Till 5pm, Marathwada recorded an average voter turnout of 60.63%. At 70.46%, Sillod constituency in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district recorded the highest turnout till 5 pm. The lowest voting percentage was recorded in Nanded where 55.88% of voters cast their votes, as per the figures available till 5 PM.

As of 3 pm, the voter turnout at Akola was recorded at 44.45%, Amravati 45.13%, Aurangabad 47.05%, Beed 46.15%, Bhandara 51.32%, Buldhana 47.48%, Chandrapur 49.87%, Dhule 47.62%, Gadchiroli 62.99%, Gondia 53.88%, Hingoli 49.64%, Jalgaon 40.62%, Jalna 50.14%, Kolhapur 54.06%, and Latur 48.34%. In Nagpur, the voter turnout stood at 44.45%, Nanded 42.87%, Nandurbar 51.16%, Nashik 46.86%, Osmanabad 45.81%, Palghar 46.82%, Parbhani 48.84%, Pune 41.70%, Raigad 48.13 percent, Ratnagiri 50.04%, Sangli 48.39%, Satara 49.82%, Sindhudurg 51.05%, Solapur 43.49%, Thane 38.94%, Wardha 49.68%, Washim 43.67% and Yavatmal 48.81% till 3 pm.

The state’s voter turnout in 2019 was around 61%. It was around 63% in 2014, 59% in 2009 and 63% in 2004.

MUMBAI VOTER TURNOUT IN THE PAST

In the 2019 assembly elections, Mumbai recorded a voter turnout of 50.67%. Mumbai city turnout was 50.51%, while the island city saw 48.3%, and the eastern and western suburbs saw 51.57% turnout.

Colaba fared the worst with just 40.11% turnout, followed by Versova in the western suburbs with 42.35%, Andheri west 43.50%, Bandra west 43.97%, Mumbadevi 44.34%, Kurla 44.84%, Goregaon 46.4%, Malabar Hill 46.9%, and Worli at 48%.

Among the best performers were Bhandup west at 56.15%, Anushakti Nagar at 55.7%, Dindoshi at 55.41%, Vikhroli at 55.26%, and Ghatkopar west 55.02%.

The turnout was 51.21% in 2014 assembly polls. The voter turnout in 2009 state polls for Mumbai was 46.1%. In 2004 assembly polls, it was 48.4% and in 1999 assembly polls Mumbai recorded 44.9% voter turnout.
