On March 23, 1931, the heroic Jiale of Mother India was happily hanged for the sake of the country. This date also has a connection with Bollywood. The film ’23 March 1931- Shaheed’ was released on 7 June 2002. It was made on Shaheed Bhagat Singh. Surely this film was made, but while making it, many legend couples broke up, so the mutual enmity of two people reached the cinema hall. Rajkumar Santoshi made The Legend of Bhagat Singh with Ajay Devgan, but Bobby Deol could also be in this film.
Sunny Deol wanted brother Bobby Deol to be in the main role-
Actually, Rajkumar Santoshi had cast Ajay Devgan for the role of Bhagat Singh in the film ‘The Legend of Bhagat Singh’ and Sunny Deol was chosen to play the role of freedom fighter Chandrashekhar Azad. But Sunny wanted Santoshi to take his brother Bobby Deol in the lead role instead of Ajay. But Rajkumar turned down his proposal because Rajkumar Santoshi had made up his mind to cast Ajay Devgan in this film.
Rift in friendship
Director Rajkumar Santoshi and Sunny Deol were considered very good friends. Santoshi has made many superhit films about Sunny Deol. After this decision of Santoshi, Sunny Deol refused to work in his film. Since then, the news of estrangement between Santoshi and Sunny started making headlines in the media. This was confirmed when Sunny Deol also announced to make a film on Bhagat Singh.
It was only after this that Sunny joined the film ’23 March 1931: Shaheed’ directed by Guddu Dhanoa. In this film, Sunny Deol appeared in the role of Chandrashekhar Azad and Bobby Deol appeared in the role of Bhagat Singh.
Both the movies released on the same day-
Sunny was so upset with Rajkumar Santoshi that he had kept the release date of the film on the same day as Rajkumar had kept the release date of his film ‘The Legend of Bhagat Singh’. In such a situation, everyone was waiting for the release of both the films. Both the films were released on 7 June 2002 but people liked Ajay Devgan in this role more than Bobby Deol. Ajay Devgan was awarded the National Award for ‘The Legend of Bhagat Singh’, while Rajkumar Santoshi was honored with the Filmfare Best Director Award for ‘The Legend of Bhagat Singh’.
