The Super 4 clash in Asia Cup 2023 witnessed a special moment as a group hug of star players Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav went viral on social media. Defending a moderate 214-run target, the Indian bowlers did well against Sri Lanka and kept taking wickets at regular intervals to keep the visitors alive in the game. Kuldeep, who claimed a fifer against Pakistan a day back, picked the wickets of Sadeera Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka in quick succession.
Former captain Kohli was all pumped after Kuldeep claimed a wicket as he hugged him, wicketkeeper Rahul and captain Rohit at the same time as the moment went viral on social media.
Wicketkeeper Rahul was involved in both of Kuldeep’s wickets as he stumped Samarawickrama who was looking good touch and was dismissed for 17. In Kuldeep’s next over, Rahul grabbed a sensational catch behind the stumps to send Charith Asalanka back in the hut for 22. Apart from Kuldeep, premier paceman Jasprit Bumrah also picked two early wickets to dent Sri Lana early in the chase. Bumrah got the wicket of Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis to lead India’s fightback after a below-par batting performance.
Earlier, left-arm spinner Dunith Wellalage (5/40) took a fifer as Sri Lanka bowled India out for a paltry 213 in a Super 4 match of the Asia Cup here on Tuesday.
The spin duo of Wellalage and Charith Asalanka (4/18) wreaked havoc in the middle overs to bundle out India in 49.1 overs after skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat.
Rohit was the top-scorer for India with a 53-run knock but they kept losing wickets at regular intervals and struggled miserably against the Sri Lanka spinners to get bundled out for a below-par score.
