Former India captain MS Dhoni, who celebrates his 43rd birthday today, July 7, enjoys a devout fanbase across the nation. Revered as ‘Captain Cool’ by many, MSD’s contributions to the cricketing realm are unparalleled. He is the only Indian skipper who has bagged all the major ICC trophies including the T20 World Cup in 2007, the ODI World Cup in 2011 and the Champions Trophy in 2013. Thala, as he is commonly called by his admirers, also led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to their fifth IPL triumph in 2023.
On the occasion of the cricket icon turning a day older, a wallpaper-appropriate thread on X featuring some special moments in his flourishing professional life and sneak peeks of his personal life have gone viral. “MS Dhoni wallpapers that go hard,” read the note.
The first photograph took cricket enthusiasts on a nostalgic ride in 2007 when Dhoni lifted the inaugural T20 World Cup. The captain led India to victory by defeating Pakistan in Johannesburg. The World Cup-winning captain celebrated the feat by popping the champagne. He sported his iconic long hair.
A glimpse of Dhoni making a royal entry into the ground presumably during an IPL opening ceremony brought fond memories. Dressed in the yellow jersey, he rode a wheeled-vehicle as tiger-masked men paraded beside him. Fireworks erupted as the jam-packed crowd cheered in joy.
A smiling Dhoni proudly looking at the IPL trophy made fans emotional.
Next came a fictional fan-made wallpaper where Dhoni sat beside Sushant Singh Rajput. The late actor slipped into the shoes of the legendary wicketkeeper-batter in the 2016 blockbuster film, M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story.
Dhoni shared the frame with his wife Sakshi Singh in another click. It was taken from their arrival at Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s pre-wedding rituals in Jamnagar. The CSK captain looked dapper in a maroon T-shirt, black trousers and uber-cool sunglasses.
Another heartwarming picture showed MSD with Sakshi and their daughter Ziva on the field post an IPL match.
In what could have brought tears to the eyes of many, one frame captured the historic moment when Dhoni smashed the winning six in the 2011 ODI World Cup final.
Other photos featured candid snaps of Thala. His legendary helicopter shot also found a special place in the thread.
“Wow” reacted a Dhoni fan. “Upload more vintage India jersey pics,” requested another. A few dropped heart and fire emojis in the comments section.
