The DPR for the Navi Mumbai metro Lines 2, 3 and 4 which connect to the Navi Mumbai International Airport will be submitted by CIDCO-appointed consultants.
The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) now has more motivation to concentrate on commissioning the remaining lines of the Navi Mumbai Metro due to the positive response given to Line 1.
More than one lakh commuters have used Line 1, bringing in almost Rs 39 lakh both online as well as via cash. The detailed project report (DPR) for Lines 2, 3, and 4, which connect to the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), will soon be submitted by consultants. The 11-kilometer Line 1 of the Metro runs between the Belapur terminus and Pendhar, Navi Mumbai.
According to Times Now, it is projected that building all four lines will cost more than Rs 11,000 crore. Meanwhile, the possibility of extending the Mumbai Metro Rail Line to the airport is also being investigated by CIDCO.
“The response to the line 1 of Metro is extremely positive. On an average everyday over 15,000 commuters are using the line to commute from Belapur to Taloja. This has certainly given impetus toward getting the other lines commissioned at the earliest,” Joint Managing Director (JMD) of CIDCO, Rajesh Patil said, as quoted by Hindustan Times.
Reportedly, the proposed lines will create a new, faster mode of transport at the NMIA terminal, making them incredibly important to the city. Moreover, the detailed project report will be submitted shortly by the consultants, who were hired five months ago.
On November 17, Navi Mumbai’s Metro Line 1 was put into operation. The first-line implementation took a long time, which is why a new DPR was required. Additionally, a financial line of credit of Rs 500 crore was obtained by CIDCO from a private bank in order to carry out the Line 1 project. Around Rs 11,000 crore is projected to be spent overall on building all 4 lines.
According to the response given to a request made by social activist Anil Galgali, the cost of constructing Line 1 was Rs 3,063 crore, reports state.
A senior official from CIDCO stated that a lot is currently going on with regard to the further planning and operation of the Mavi Mumbai Metro line. He further asserted that the focus is not only on Lines 2, 3, and 4 but also on the feasibility of extending the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) Metro Rail Line between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai Airport, also known as Line 8. It has been reported that CIDCO has decided to create a new DPR for the remaining section of Line 8, which ends at Mankhurd.
