No teeth in govt guidelines to regulate OTT platforms, social media: SC | News – Times of India Videos

The Supreme Court has asked the Centre to consider framing a stringent law to regulate content on social media and OTT (Over-the-top) platforms and submit a copy of the draft legislation for the top court’s consideration after 2 weeks. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who appearing for the Centre, assured SC that fresh legislation for OTT platforms is under consideration. SC observed that the Centre’s February 5 notification on IT intermediary rules and other guidelines to regulate social media and OTT platforms lack ‘teeth’ as they don’t allow pre-screening of content or have a provision to prosecute violators.
