Devotees have gathered at the Ganges Ghats in Kashi on Surya Shashthi, the festival of children’s wishes. Bathing and worshiping in Lolark Kund was banned for the second consecutive year in view of a possible third wave of the Corona epidemic. Despite this, a huge crowd of devotees started gathering at Lolark Kund from late Saturday night. When the police and PAC started to convince the devotees by barricading, all of them turned towards Assi and Tulsi Ghat.

The festival of Surya Shashti on Shukla Shashthi of Bhadrapada month is called Lolark Shashthi in Kashi. On Lolark Shashti, people who come with the desire to have children take a bath in the Lolark Kund located in Bhadaini and worship Lolarkeshwar Mahadev. Even if the child’s wish is fulfilled, there is a law to bathe in the pool, shave the child and offer a dish (kadhai) to Lolarkeshwar Mahadev. In view of this, this time too, from late Saturday night, not only Kashi, but from different parts of the country, crowds of devotees had started gathering.

ACP Bhelupur Praveen Kumar Singh said that police and PAC have been deployed on all the roads leading to Lolark Kund. Barricating has also been done. The devotees who came from night till morning were persuaded and sent towards the Ganges Ghats. Due to the Corona epidemic, the ban imposed on bathing in Lolark Kund is being fully complied with.
After 1 o’clock on Saturday night, devotees gathered in Lolark Kund for bath and worship.
Lolark Sashti is one of the Lakkha fairs
Lolark Sashti is one of the Lakkha fairs of Kashi. The reason is that on this day lakhs of devotees gather from Lolark Kund to Assi and Tulsi Ghat. Last year also, due to the specter of Corona, there was a ban on bathing and worship in Lolark Kund. Due to the imposition of the ban for the second consecutive year, there was a lot of despair among the devotees coming from different parts of the country.

For bathing in Lolark Kund, devotees said that we had come here with great expectation, but got disappointed. Apart from affecting our daily life, Corona has also deeply hurt our faith.
