Only 25% of Amitabh Bachchan’s liver works: He was clinically dead 40 years ago in the Coolie accident, now doing 6 films at the age of 80

Amitabh Bachchan is a part of 6 films even at the age of 80. He has also been seen doing action in Brahmastra. Recently, while shooting for an action sequence of the upcoming film Project-K, he injured his ribs in Hyderabad. Amitabh Bachchan’s muscles were torn in the accident and he also had trouble breathing. After stopping the shooting immediately after the accident, Amitabh has been sent to Mumbai after treatment. Amitabh himself has given information about the incident through his blog. This is not the first time Amitabh has had an accident on the sets. 41 years ago, on July 26, 1982, Amitabh had suffered an internal injury on the sets of Coolie. Amitabh was suffering from pain for 4 days due to intestinal rupture and the injury was not detected at the right time. The infection had spread so much due to intestinal rupture that the doctors had to operate in an emergency. After the operation, there was high fever and instead of 72, the heartbeat started running at a speed of 180, due to which he went into a coma. Even before this, Amitabh was struggling with asthma, jaundice, kidney problem. For 3 days even the doctors were in fear and the whole country was praying for Big B. After many problems and operations, Big B returned after recovering after 3 months, there was an atmosphere of celebration in the country.

Amitabh Bachchan got hurt during the shooting of these films and shows

Amitabh suffered the pain for 4 days in a situation in which it was difficult to survive even for 3-4 hours.

On 26 July 1982, Amitabh Bachchan was shooting an action sequence for the film Coolie. According to the demand of the shot, Puneet Issar had to punch Amitabh and he had to fall on the table. This work was of body double, but Amitabh himself shot it for perfection. The punch was sharp due to which a corner of the table hit Amitabh’s stomach. There was no blood, but Big B was in a bad condition due to pain. When he went to the hospital, the doctors could not understand the exact reason. Big B spent two days with the help of Pain Killer, but when the pain did not stop, then he was admitted to St. Philomena Hospital in Bengaluru.

During the film Coolie (1983), whenever the scene where Amitabh was injured, he was stopped and informed about the accident.

Doctors had also given answers

X-ray was done but still the exact reason could not be ascertained. Many tests were done, but when the injury was not detected then how would the treatment be done. When the pain became unbearable on the third day, the doctors again examined it closely by X-ray. Saw that the X-ray showed gas under the diaphragm, which was a sign of leakage. Actually, Amitabh’s intestines were torn due to injury and the infection had spread due to not getting treatment at the right time. On the fourth day renowned surgeon HS Bhatia saw Amitabh’s case and suggested immediate operation.

Before the operation, Amitabh got 102 fever and his heartbeat became 180 instead of 72. When the operation was done, it was seen that the intestines had burst from inside. It was difficult to survive even for 3-4 hours in such condition, but he was struggling for 4 days. Big B went into a coma on the fourth day. Two operations were done and he was kept in the hospital for two months.

Big B was already battling asthma, liver problem and pneumonia

Amitabh Bachchan had liver problem even before the accident and was also asthmatic. The very next day after the operation, he developed pneumonia, which worsened his condition. After treatment in Bangalore, he was brought to Mumbai by Airbus. He was shifted on a stretcher to Breach Candy Hospital by crane. He was operated again on 8 August. There was a crowd of his loved ones outside the hospital round the clock. Somewhere in the whole country worship was being done and somewhere else Yagya was being performed. Jaya Bachchan herself also went to Siddhi Vinayak for Amitabh’s safety, but when she reached, she saw that before her many people were worshiping there for Big B. People’s prayers paid off.

On 24 September 1982, Big B was discharged from Breach Candy Hospital.

Due to negligence, Big B was offered the blood of a person infected with Hepatitis B.

In 2000, Amitabh Bachchan came to know that he had Hepatitis B. Actually this disease was the result of negligence. When Big B needed blood after the accident on the Coolie set, there was a rush of blood donors. He was given 60 bottles of blood through 200 donors. In haste, Big B was transfused with the blood of a person infected with Hepatitis B, from which he himself got infected. This was told by Amitabh Bachchan himself when he was made the brand ambassador of the Hepatitis B campaign by the Union Health Ministry.

When Big B said – I was finished inside

After recovering, Amitabh Bachchan said in an interview to Stardust magazine, I did not know that I was going to die. I knew something bad had happened to me. I was in a coma when I was fighting between life and death. I was not conscious. It was a difficult phase in my life, but it was more difficult for my family than me, because I was unaware of all this. I was healthy and full of enthusiasm for life, but then I suddenly realized that I was dead inside. Now you can’t even move a finger, your leg doesn’t support. How can this happen in just one day. I was very scared.

75 percent liver has stopped working

In 2000, Amitabh Bachchan had a severe stomach ache. When Big B reached the hospital for treatment, he came to know that he had a problem with his intestine, for which he underwent diverticulitis of small intestine surgery. It was during treatment that Big B came to know that he had liver cirrhosis. It was caused by Hepatitis B. In 2012, Amitabh Bachchan’s 75 percent infected liver was surgically cut and separated.

Now Big B is surviving only on 25 percent liver. Although he himself has accepted that even 12 percent of the liver can be served.

myasthenia gravis due to drug overdose

Amitabh Bachchan also suffers from a muscle related disease called Myasthenia Gravis. In this disease, the connection between the muscles and the nervous system is broken. This disease usually occurs due to excessive consumption of medicines.

Shahenshah is asthmatic

Amitabh Bachchan has asthma. Due to this disease, the airways of the body become narrow, due to which the right amount of oxygen does not reach the lungs. Due to the closure of the tubes, the patient also often gets asthma attacks, due to which there is difficulty in breathing. Such patients are prohibited from living in dust and low temperature. However, in the recently released Amitabh Bachchan’s film Height, he has shot in minus degree temperature.

Have defeated tuberculosis

Amitabh Bachchan has been detected with TB ie Tuberculosis years ago. With timely diagnosis and proper treatment, he overcame the disease.

Amitabh was injured on the set of Thugs of Hindostan

Amitabh Bachchan was seen doing tremendous action in the 2018 film Thugs of Hindostan. For an action sequence, Amitabh Bachchan had to use a body double, but he himself shot the action scenes. He had injured his shoulder while doing heavy action. Although this injury was not serious.

Leg vein was cut during the shooting of KBC 14

During the shooting of Kaun Banega Crorepati 14 in 2022, Amitabh Bachchan’s leg vein was cut by a metal piece. There was a lot of bleeding from his calf muscle on the set, after which he was taken to the hospital.
