Pebbles, which got India’s official entry in the International Feature Film category at the Oscar Awards 2022, is out of the race for the Oscars. On the other hand Indian documentary feature ‘Writing with Fire’ has entered the next round. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Wednesday announced the shortlists for the Oscar Awards 2022. The name of ‘Writing with Fire’ is also included in this list.

15 films in race for top prize in feature film category
Critically-acclaimed ‘Pebbles’ and ‘Kozhangal’ in Tamil have been directed by Vinothraj PS. The drama follows an alcoholic abusive husband, who sets out with his young son to find and bring her back after his long-suffering wife runs away. 15 films are still in the race for the top prize in the International Feature Film category. Films from 92 countries were included in this category.

Japanese film ‘Drive My Car’, Denmark’s ‘Flea’, Iran’s ‘A Hero’ and Italy’s ‘The Hand of God’ are leading the feature film categories. ‘Great Freedom’ (Austria), ‘Playground’ (Belgium), ‘I’m Your Man’ (Germany), ‘Hive’ (Kosovo), ‘Prayers for the Stolen’ (Mexico), ‘The Worst Person in the World’ (Norway), ‘Plaza Cathedral’ (Panama), ‘Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom’ (Bhutan), ‘Compartment No. 6’ (Finland), ‘Lamb’ (Iceland) and ‘The Good Boss’ (Spain) are also part of this line-up.

‘Writing with Fire’ is based on the story of Dalit women
‘Writing with Fire’ chronicles the rise of Khabar Lahariya, India’s only newspaper run by Dalit women. The documentary is directed by Rintu Thomas and Sushmit Ghosh, making his directorial debut. The film follows this ambitious group of Dalit wonder women—led by their lead reporter Meera—as the team switches from print to digital to stay relevant.

15 films in race in documentary feature category
15 films advanced in the documentary feature category for the 94th edition of the Academy Awards. 138 films have been included in this category. ‘Ascension’, ‘Attica’, ‘Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry’, ‘Faya Dayi’, ‘The First Wave’, ‘Flea’, ‘In the Same Breath’, ‘Julia’, ‘President’, ‘ Procession’, ‘The Rescue’, ‘Simple as Water’, ‘Summer of Soul’ and ‘The Velvet Underground’ are in the list.

Oscar Awards 2022 will be announced on March 27
The Academy has also announced the shortlists for the Oscar Awards 2022 in 8 categories. Including Documentary Short Subject, Makeup & Hairstyling, Music (Original Score), Music (Original Song), Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film and Sound & Visual Effects categories. The final nominations in all categories for the Oscar Awards 2022 will be announced on February 8. After this, the award ceremony will be held on March 27.
