Oscar-nominated British actor Tom Wilkinson, known for films like 'The Full Monty' and 'The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel', has passed away. The 75-year-old actor breathed his last on Saturday. His death has been confirmed by his family.

Wilkinson's agent issued a statement on behalf of his family saying that he died suddenly at home on Saturday. However, the reason for his death was not mentioned in this statement.

Tom was last seen in the British film 'SAS: Red Notice' released in 2021.

Received Academy Award nomination in 2001
Wilkinson received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for the 2001 family drama 'In the Bedroom'. Apart from this, he also received a nomination in the Best Supporting Actor category for George Clooney starrer 'Michael Clayton', released in 2007.

Tom was awarded an Emmy and Golden Globe Award for playing the role of American politician Benjamin Franklin in the 2008 mini-series 'John Adams'.

Britain has the highest fan following
Tom, born in Britain, has the highest fan following there. He is recognized there for the film 'The Full Monty' released in 1997. For this he also won the British Academy Film Award for Best Supporting Actor.

Wilkinson started his career with the Polish film 'Smuga Chenia' released in 1976. In a career spanning 47 years, he worked in nearly 100 films, which included many films in the 'Batman' and 'Mission Impossible' series.

Wilkinson also worked in around 50 TV shows. Apart from this, he was also very active in theatre.
