Film producer and former chairman of CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) Pahlaj Nihalani has talked about 90s heroine Divya Bharti. He has told in an interview that in 1993, when he wanted to cast Divya in the film Aankhen, how the actress had thrown tantrums at him.

In an interview given to Bollywood Thikana, Pahlaj Nihalani said, I wanted to cast Divya Bharti, Pooja Bhatt and Juhi Chawla in the film Aankhen. I was thinking of casting Divya opposite Chunky Pandey while Ritu Shivpuri had been signed opposite Govinda. When David Dhawan told this to Divya, she was shocked. She called me and started throwing tantrums. When I went to meet him, Divya said to me, I heard that you are thinking of casting me opposite Chunky? I said yes and he immediately refused to work in the film. She did not want to become Chunky Pandey’s heroine.

Divya was told to lose weight
Pahlaj Nihalani also told that when he first saw Divya, he advised her to lose weight. Then he was cast in the film Shola Aur Shabnam in which Govinda was the hero and David Dhawan was the director. Divya had approached me through her secretary. I saw his pictures where he looked a little overweight. I told the secretary that Divya would have to lose weight before starting work. During this time we started shooting. She came to the set just five days before the shooting ended. We had almost completed the entire film without the heroine. All Divya’s scenes were shot in the last five days. She was good at working. I signed him in many films after this.

Divya died at the age of 19
Divya was a fast rising actress of Bollywood in the 90s but she died on April 5, 1993 at the age of 19. According to media reports, he lost his life after falling from the balcony of his house. Mumbai Police had already closed the case related to the death investigation in 1998. The police closed the case assuming that it was an accident.
