A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court on Sunday (July 21) against the decision of the Union Education Ministry to cancel the UGC NET examination. The central government had canceled the UGC-NET examination on June 19. This examination was held on June 18, a day before the cancellation.
The petition has been filed by advocate Ujjwal Gaur. In the petition, a request has been made to order a stay on conducting the re-examination of UGC-NET until the CBI completes its investigation into the irregularities in the NET exam.
“The decision to hold the exam again in view of the recent findings of the CBI is not only arbitrary but also unjust. Moreover, the investigation by the CBI has revealed the fact that the evidence claiming question paper leak has been tampered with,” the petition said.
‘Cancellation of exams has reduced students’ confidence in the examination system’
The petition also argued that the unnecessary cancellation of the NET exam caused a lot of trouble to the candidates who had worked hard for this important exam. At the same time, this decision has disrupted the academic and professional plans of countless students, thereby reducing their confidence in the examination system.
The petition will be heard by a bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra.
