Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi had planned to hold two meetings in Saharanpur on 8 February. But the administration has not allowed it.

  • Experts said- Congress party can be an alternative to BJP in Western UP
  • Seven Congress MLAs in UP, two of them only from Saharanpur district

The impact of farmers’ anger against the agricultural government against the agricultural laws is being seen in the most impact in western Uttar Pradesh called Jatland. This is the reason that the panchayat of the Bharatiya Kisan Union or the mahapanchayat of the Rashtriya Lok Dal is thronging the farmers in all. The Congress has also become active to cash in on this occasion. Recently, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi met the family of farmer Navrita Singh, who was killed in a tractor parade in Delhi, in Rampur, and on February 8 planned to have two meetings in Saharanpur, 9 on Shamli and 10 in Muzaffarnagar. But the administration has not allowed it.

Actually, this is not the first time that no program of Congress General Secretary has been approved. From the year 2019 till now, the local administration has not allowed law and order to happen for some reason. For now, political experts behind the denial of permissions believe that “BJP knows that their choice may be the Congress party in West UP. Therefore, the reason for not giving permission may be one of the reasons.”

Why all opposition parties active in western UP?
Senior journalist Siddharth Kahns says that it is easier for big leaders to reach western Uttar Pradesh as it is adjacent to Delhi. In the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress won in Meerut, Moradabad, Rampur, Aligarh, Ghaziabad and even Mathura in western UP. No major leader of the Congress party left the party in western Uttar Pradesh. In every election, the atmosphere of the first phase of elections is decided from here. That is why from the ruling party to the opposition parties make all efforts to build their strength in the first phase. Therefore, Priyanka Gandhi wants to start her UP meetings in the midst of the farmer movement.

The senior journalist said that out of the seven Congress MLAs presently, two of the remaining Congress MLAs are from Saharanpur district, after the two Rae Bareli MLAs were demolished. In the 2014 Lok Sabha and 2017 assembly elections, the Congress supported small parties. Of which the Congress was the largest ally with the National Lok Dal. Not only this, the Jat and Dalit-Muslim have made a dent in the BSP’s vote bank by Bhim Army Chief Chandrashekhar Ravan. In the last four years, in many incidents of western Uttar Pradesh, Congress raised the issue, while Bhima Army Chief Chandrashekhar was standing with Ravana and Priyanka Gandhi has also gone to meet.

These programs were also not allowed

  • On 2 October 2019, the district administration of Lucknow did not give permission to carry out the peace march.
  • Permission was sought to address the rally in Jaunpur district on 9 May 2019, but the district administration did not give permission.
  • On May 18, there was a dispute between the Uttar Pradesh government and Priyanka Gandhi’s personal secretary over the approval of 1000 buses for migrant laborers. State President Ajay Lallu had to go to jail in the case registered in Hazratganj Kotwali.

Who votes Muslim? The eyes of all parties except BJP

In many parts of western UP, the population of Muslims is 30 to 40 percent. In the 2009 election, Jat votes with Muslims reposed confidence in the Congress. But the riots in Muzaffarnagar in 2013 impacted the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. The polarization of votes helped the BJP. Muslim votes were divided. The Congress is now engaged in the exercise of casting Jat-Muslim votes under its cover in the guise of the peasant movement.

Congress these two MLAs in Saharanpur

  • Saharanpur countryside: Masood Akhtar is the MLA in this seat. But their BSP sometimes stays with the Congress. In the year 2016, he was returned home in the Congress. He won this seat in the Congress by registering his victory in the 2017 elections.
  • Behat (Saharanpur): Naresh Saini of Congress won the Behat seat of Saharanpur, which is said to be politically sensitive. Naresh Saini defeated BJP and BSP candidates by 26,000 votes in 2017 in a conservative contest.
